You have to think they must wait at least a little while before naming them - long enough that they show some semblance of personality, at least.

You say Derpy/Ditzy, I say "the gray pony with the blonde mane and wonky eyes." Until I know for sure that someone else references her by name in the show, I'm not naming her.

As to her behavior, I'd just say bad luck. Question. When do you stand out more, when you're being normal or when you screw up? When you screw up, obviously. So people notice things the pony does wrong, obviously.

Second, why does everyone think she likes muffins? :l Did I miss something?

Third... what if she's Blessed with Suck or something? Would that be a possible explanation?

It's the only thing she's ever said on screen.

I go with the idea that she just has a lazy eye, and it has no bearing on her personality in the slightest

I've been starting to call Derpy "Bizarro Minty", after the Generation 3 pony Minty, because it would fit, right? Minty was an adorkable ditz and the original Pinkie Pie's best friend, so I'm fond of the idea many fans have that Derpy is an old friend of the new Pinkie as they're the only ones who really understand each other.

It is possible to listen to it and watch the mouth movements and see whose mouth matches the words.

I think. I dunno, I never paid that much attention, that's just the official explanation.

What is that? It's hilarious! It makes me appreciate how one of the official poses for Applejack gives her that half-lidded expression, because I can now imagine her saying "Ohhhh yeahhhh, we just did that! I'm Applejack, and here's Twilight Sparkle's cutie marks, and here's a quote from Rainbow Dash, but with Pinkie Pie's name here. Problem?"

There's a whole meme of that, taking a picture, quote, and name that don't match. I would just assume that's a fandom-specific version.

Yeah, the quote thing is definitely intentional; it's an old method of starting flame wars among stupid people. Like going on a Star Wars forum and posting a picture of Darth Vader with "'Do or do not, there is no try' - Luke Skywalker" under it.

Re the whole Derpy vs Ditzy thing: As far as I'm concerned, the two terms are roughly equivalent, although I usually use "Derpy" because that name is more widespread. I'm pretty sure that Faust actually referred to the pony in question as "derpy" on at least one occasion, and we never actually see the pony that "Ditzy" is referring to. Basically we have no evidence either way until season 2.

I'm pretty sure I already noted my thoughts on her personality (Genius Ditz), so there's no point in explaining that again.

The quote I heard about that was, in response to a question on the subject of the name Derpy, "She can be derpy if everyone wants". I'm not sure what exactly that's supposed to mean.

There was also that time Faust auctioned off some sketches, and the scan of the wall-eyed pony was called something like "derpy.jpg" or something. Not sure if that's what she uploaded it under, or if somebody else renamed the file.

Here's another thing I've been wondering about. When making a game, what do you think the most appropriate collision boxes would be?

Looking at the sprites, I think the most fitting option is one rectangle for the main body and a seperate rectangle for the head. However, the problem is that if the head has collision, that means ponies could grab onto ledges with their chins which is just silly.
