I'm also a little confused that neither Rarity, nor Fluttershy was in charge of the Animal team. AJ's the leader of the green vests, and RD's the leader of the Blue vests. Just seemed a bit weird

Flutershy is not leadership material and Rarity was focused on one task.

I like this way, it's show that Mane Cast don't do everythign importand in Ponyville.

One wonders why RD was in charge of the weather team though. AJ I can see as a leader, but RD? She seems a bit too impulsive for that type of job.

Then again, I guess the point is that they aren't exactly efficient before Twilight came along

Do we see the animal team's leader?

RD is leadership material (Element Of Loyality) and she can be in charge of pegasus weather team.

One of the backgroud unicorn leader of animal team, not one most knowed, check MLPFIM wiki.

Loyalty isn't really a leadership quality. Loyalty is the sort of thing I'd expect from a subordinate. RD struck me as that. She's muscle. She's a brilliant worker and can get stuff done amazingly, but I wouldn't trust her with actually MAKING decisions.

Maybe it's a minor case of Asskicking Equals Authority? She's the best worker, ergo, she's in charge

Not sure how many people here watch Code Geass, but RD struck me as the Suzaku to Twilight's Lelouch.

Give her a clear cut goal and nothing can stop her, but when it comes to developing a strategy in the first place, she's not all that great

I honestly forgot how good Winter Wrap Up (the song AND the episode) was. It's probably one of my favourite eps now that I think about it

I feel sorry for the Mayor of Ponyville. She's like the most incompetent authority figure we've seen on this show

That basically sums it up. Give RD a goal to accomplish and she'll make it happen, but she not good at prioritizing what goals need to be met. There has to be somebody above her to make sure that she's putting her effort into something that's actually useful. Without direction, she'd probably waste enormous amounts of time doing something Awesome, but Impractical.

The weather team also seems to be the group most reliant on orders from the other teams. So maybe it's ok since RD would be taking orders from AJ and Fluttershy all day anyway
