Weirdly enough, I enjoy writing it, but I rarely read it. I like the challenge of taking established characters and seeing what I can do with them. And also because every time I start working on an original work I get sidetracked by the world building and character creation, so using an established setting lets me focus more on plot. (not that plot)
But yeah, Sturgeon's Law definitely applies here; most fanfic is crappy wish fulfillment garbage that doesn't have much respect for the source material. I just try to not be part of that section.
