I kinda agree with RS about it. It's less about what kind of content is involved and more what end the content is used for. It's entirely possible to write a fanfic with sexual content and still be faithful to the original characterization (although it's very hard to do correctly, especially with a show like MLP). It really comes down to whether the author is writing about the characters for their own sake, or whether he's just using them as an excuse to write about porn or gore or whatever. In the later case, it feels like they don't care about the characters or the work because they sacrifice any sort of fidelity to the source material in favor of shock value.

EDIT: To use that as an example, I'm okay with it because the artist put a lot of work into making sure that he captured the character's personalities in the drawings rather than just going "BOOBS EVERYWHERE".

There was another artist who did humanized versions of the ponies. It was mostly for porn but I remember absolutely loving the style

And yeah. I guess that's the deciding factor: whether or not it actually feels like romance, and not just a couple of attractive slabs of meat. That applies pan-fandom, as far as I'm concerned.

I've seen a lot of Twilights who are Asian/Black or Ambiguously Brown for whatever reason.

^I think Ambiguously Brown Twilight just comes from her coat color; it's darker than the other girls' (and is maybe less saturated? I don't know), and darker skin looks better with her hair, I guess. Heck if I know.

Ginger, let me know if you recall the name of that artist, huh? Gotta love good artists. (Maybe Megasweet?)

I heard it had something to do with Tara Strong making Twilight's voice sound a lot like Sari Sumdac, who was Ambiguously Brown as well.

Honestly, Megasweet's stuff doesn't bug me much. The sexual material is fairly tame and usually in character or covered by Rule of Funny. And the art is always amazing.

Now I feel old because I remember watching the episode of Rugrats that the pudding thing is from.

The only megasweet design I think is kinda weird is Rarity's. It fits, but she looks older than I thought she'd be.

Rarity owns her own business; she probably is.

Have you seen the Gary's Mod adaptation?

@Teeth: Hehe, me too. I remember the first time I saw that, something just clicked and I thought "Is that reference what I think it is?" Then upon finding out that it is, "Wow... I'm such an old man."

With regards to the explicit stuff, my opinion has kind of changed over time. I used to not want to go near it, but some of it is cute or rather hilarious and being exposed to the Training Grounds IRC (or more specifically, Kits and his tendency to drop NSFW links every so often) has taught me that. Now, unless it's something really bad, I generally find explicit stuff to be rather entertaining in a "that's ludicrous" kind of way (even the stuff that seems to be trying to be serious about its premise).

Really, it comes down to how well done it is, both in terms of how good the art itself is, and how it treats the characters it uses.

I don't mind most of the rawnchy pictures, because to me it's just an image that I can justify in any way that I want, I can formulate my own set up for why their having sex, if that makes any sense.

Then, the less context there is, the better?
