The first two episodes aren't all
that indicative of the rest of the show. I'd watch a few more episodes of the
Slice of Life type stuff, since that's what most of the show is like. Can't think of which specific episodes to recommend off the top of my head though. Sonic Rainboom comes to mind, mainly because of the
Cold Open. Winter Wrap up is another popular one. There are other episodes that I like more (Suited for Success and Green Isn't Your Color), but those work better if you're more familiar with the characters.
Overall, I think the thing that makes the show popular is that while it is simplistic and obviously geared towards children, it doesn't insult the audience's intelligence. The type of humor it uses isn't geared towards a specific age group, so it has a wider appeal than most shows.
The main reason I like it is the characterization; all the characters are very well rounded for a children's show; there's a lot of depth in the way the strengths and weaknesses of the cast are handled. Most episodes do a good job of creating conflict by utilizing that characterization rather than just passing the
Idiot Ball around the cast; most conflicts are justified (or at least understandable). The conflicts feel like something that would naturally arise from the situation rather than something that was just thrown in for the sake of having a moral.
Also, it does a good job of averting
Tastes Like Diabetes (title aside), and it's well written all around. And the animation is really good.
