[up][up] The mischief would've been pointless if Fluttershy knew what Phil was. In order for the prank to work, they'd have to be sure that neither Flutter or Twilight knew

Oooookay, I just missed something about lesbians having babies with one hypothesis being temporary gender-bending, and

Yeah, Ponychan seems to be down. I wonder why.

That wasn't the most bizarre theory by FAR, Pannic.

And whatever it was, ponychan is back up now. Weird.

I find it odd even after Lauren Faust said yes, ponies reproduce the same way mammals do in real life, people still speculate where foals come from.

Are we that starved for pony content?

Apparently. I don't know, what is there about the show that we haven't discussed yet? We've breached a little bit into culture and social structure, what are we going to go onto now? Government? The economy?

How exactly, for that matter, does the bit system work? Are there different denominations of bits? All the coins seem to look the sme, but surely a pony can't carry like, 20 thick gold coins on them at all times.

Is it weird that I keep thinking of Apple Bloom and friends shouting out "Cuttie Mark crusaders <something age-inappropriate> YAY!"

I never go anywhere with that except for maybe Applejack and/or Rarity saying "they wouldn't!"

Are bits ever used for a transaction that doesn't involve Applejack and her produce

OK, so I've been hearing a lot about this show lately. I figured I might as well see if it's as good as everyone seems to think, so I watched the first two episodes.

It's certainly not bad - in fact, it's pretty cute - but I guess I was expecting a bit more. I'm still a bit confused as to why people like it so much. On the other hand, the characters have plenty of personality, and I like the animation style. The story was meh, but I've heard that's not one of the show's strong points. It was cheesy at times, but I suppose that's to be expected, since it IS a kids' show. I guess it was pretty good, but it's not quite enough to interest me.

Basically, I'm here to ask if it gets any better. I might be interested in watching a bit more, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Could I have an honest answer as to whether it's worth continuing? I know you'll all probably say yes, but I'd appreciate it if you could explain why. What exactly do you like about the show? I'm interested in hearing what you have to say.

It took me a while before I really started to like it, and until then I found it a chore to watch. "Winter Wrap Up" is when I REALLY started to love it. I think it's a show you need to let grow on you. If you can be bothered that is

[up][up]The first two episodes aren't all that indicative of the rest of the show. I'd watch a few more episodes of the Slice of Life type stuff, since that's what most of the show is like. Can't think of which specific episodes to recommend off the top of my head though. Sonic Rainboom comes to mind, mainly because of the Cold Open. Winter Wrap up is another popular one. There are other episodes that I like more (Suited for Success and Green Isn't Your Color), but those work better if you're more familiar with the characters.

Overall, I think the thing that makes the show popular is that while it is simplistic and obviously geared towards children, it doesn't insult the audience's intelligence. The type of humor it uses isn't geared towards a specific age group, so it has a wider appeal than most shows.

The main reason I like it is the characterization; all the characters are very well rounded for a children's show; there's a lot of depth in the way the strengths and weaknesses of the cast are handled. Most episodes do a good job of creating conflict by utilizing that characterization rather than just passing the Idiot Ball around the cast; most conflicts are justified (or at least understandable). The conflicts feel like something that would naturally arise from the situation rather than something that was just thrown in for the sake of having a moral.

Also, it does a good job of averting Tastes Like Diabetes (title aside), and it's well written all around. And the animation is really good.

[up][up]Actually, I'd say it hits its stride much sooner than that. The thing about the pilot is that it feels like a completely different show at times. Like, neither Luna nor the Sailor Moon jewelry has been seen or heard from since. Good example of Early Installment Weirdness, or even BLAM Episode, if it hadn't introduced the Mane Cast. Because other than establishing the characters and setting, it's just... not the same.

[up] It wasn't so much that I thought it'd hit its stride, more that was the point when I'd seen enough of the show to let it grow on me completely

looking back "Boast Busters" is one of my fav episodes, and that was ep 6.

Seconding the "Sonic Rainboom" suggestion, also Party Of One.

[up]I don't think Party of One has the same impact unless you've seen Pinkie in the other episodes though. I'd recommend Bridle Gossip solely due to Fluttershy, but I'm not sure how good that would be if you haven't seen the other episodes.

I would still just say "watch them in order, " despite how self-contained the stories are for the most part. After the pilot, there aren't really any "meh" episodes. Only good ones and great ones.

"Dragonshy"? I'd say that's a pretty good one, or "Boast Busters" just to see the Large Ham greatness of TGAP Trixie

When trying to introduce friends to the show, I've found it better to show clips instead of entire episodes. One should take baby steps when coming into the herd. I myself didn't think much when someone showed me the "Winter Wrap Up" song, but after a few PMVs and short clips of the show later I checked out the pilot. And every single episode available at the time (up to "A Dog and Pony Show" I think, that's when I became a brony).

I've found this "best of Pinkie Pie" video to do wonders when introducing friends to ponies.

It wasn't the outfit, It was her makeup that did me in.

Also: Why did the young fliers competition have more contestants than they could actually show at the event? Apparently, RD wouldn't have been able to go on if she hadn't have done so with Rarity. In any other circumstance, that last contestant would've been unfairly shafted

Now that there's been 3 characters that act as the Shadow Archetypes of 3 of the main characters (Gilda - Dashie, Trixie - Twilight, Blueblood - Rarity), does anyone think that there are going to be more of these for Pinkie, Applejack and Fluttershy?
