So why suddenly invite her
now?
Oh, right, "livening things up".
Again, not the most well-written episode.
But apart, all we are is just a pile of mush and some crumbly dry mess...
...so wait that means the Trollestia meme actually has
canon backing.
I never thought of that before.
Nobody will see through my disguise... this time...
^^^That does make sense, actually. Celestia's probably been bored out of her mind at the Gala every year since the second time it was held, and she wouldn't have subjected Twilight to it if that were going to remain the case. Twilight's not a social pony, and the Gala is all about artificial social contact - seeing and being seen, as it were. Once Twilight made friends, though, Celestia saw an opportunity to liven things up, so she did.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Trollestia is canon, myself. But I agree that she does have the spirit of a good-natured prankster in her.

@Ginger: I can't find it, but there's a comic that basically has Celestia as the one who burn Rarity's wings, because Rarity's wings were prettier than hers.
Umm that's not a prank that's evil.
Am I the only one who liked the last episode?
It's pronounced "Te-ah-low-ve"
RD's story made the least sense to me. Not only did she WIN the young flier's competition, she also SAVED the lives of 4 people, 3 of those being WONDERBOLTS. Why would they not be able to talk to her if they wanted (which they clearly did)? I think she'd take priority.
It's not that they were
ignoring her per se, it's more like they plain couldn't hear her with all the noise going on in that parlor. They did want her to join them, the things she was saying just kind of got lost in the crowd.
edit: And I liked the episode. Not my favorite, but I liked it.

I agree that Celestia is a good-natured prankster, not a troll. And to be honest, assuming that A) Twilight
knew what her pet was and B) would have told someone interested in legendary animals isn't exactly cruel, or even what I'd call a mistake. What Philomena did to Fluttershy was trolling, but it's not like Celestia had an opportunity to tell Fluttershy after the kidnapping.

But, she was like "Oh yes, I also love taking care of animals, making sure they're happy, and here's my obviously-dying-pet to prove it!"

It's more I'm not sure that Celestia herself knew what Phil was up to. If she did, and allowed her to continue regardless, then that'd be a little harsh. Just a little
"Schneizel! So you ARE the
puppet master behind all this!" - Lelouch Lamperouge
Tealove is best pony
I think she might have had a little mischief in mind but it got out of hand without her realizing it.
^^^It's no big deal to anyone who knows what a phoenix is, though, because they're immortal. It's within forgivable bounds to assume that Celestia expected Twilight to mention the fact at some point, though it kinda seems like Twilight had no idea either.

maybe Twilight didn't recognize her without her beautiful plumage.
