Hey! Red Dwarf was awesome! Except season 8. Season 8 can go castrade itself.

Yeah, I like that season 2 has focused on minor characters (Big Mac, Cheerilee etc).

Season two has had marked improvements in many areas. The animation has improved vastly, with more active (and easter egg filled) backgrounds, and a great willingness to experiment with new styles and gags (Pinkie's felt imagination, the scene with Fluttershy tied up in her house). The background music has also gotten much better, with more genres used and plenty of musical references to other works. In therms of sheer writing quality, though, I don't think there has been much improvement, but it didn't get worse either. That's fine though, because this show's writing is brilliant most of the time anyway, and that's rather hard to improve on.

I think Season 2 has worked out well. There have been gems, and a few meh episodes. Same as the first. I can live with that.

Rarity has been great throughout the season.

Season 2 also has some of my favourite episodes (Hearth's Warning Eve, It's About Time and Sisterhooves Social).

Damn, I don't know anything about MLP writers. Ask me about Doctor Who writers on the other hand, and I would talk you into next Tuesday.

I actually don't pay attention to who is writing what episode. There is very little Depending on the Writer going on, so I don't find much reason to pay attention to it.

Pros-

• Animation improved in all areas, even in the backgrounds! Easter eggs were put in there for the fans!
• Derpy had a scene with lines!
• More new, varied, colorful characters debuted.
• Stories did not solely concern one of the Main Six all the time, and focus was put more on the side characters. The CMC hardly ever sought to earn their Cutie Marks.
• Music improved and was more varied too.
• Continuity was preserved in this season, even while dodging Hasbro's insistence for the show to be episodic!
• ***** DISCORD!!!

Cons-

• No more Luna after Luna Eclipsed.
• Lessons were told to the audience more conventionally as if the characters are reading from a script, rather than always writing to Celestia as justification.
• Hasbro edited Derpy's scene after it premiered.
• Writing has not always been good (all the ponies becoming Jerks for some reason in Putting Your Hoof Down, The Mysterious Mare Do Well, etc.), but for the most part, the quality matches that of the first season.
• Not enough Fluttershy, although the next episode will focus on her.
• Not a lot of memorable songs.

That's a good point that I hadn't considered before. It makes them more likable and believable characters when they aren't fixated on one thing.

@Kyler: I think that Merriweather Williams (forget the silly fan complaints) has found a strong voice, in terms of humor and storylines. Some of my favorite lines come from her episodes. I'm sure Ginger will also agree that she does justice to Pinkie. I'd have to give it to Meghan Mc Carthy, though, because I like insanity episodes. None of the male writers have made an impression. (And I don't think they've even written one episode this season. I don't know whether M.A. Larson is a man or a woman. He/She is pretty good though.)

I will also agree that the Cutie Mark Three have emerged as strong characters this season

Yeah, I didn't like the CMC at first. I thought they were stealing the spotlight and they seemed like the typical annoying kid sidekicks. But I love them just as much as the mane six now due to them getting a life outside of cutie mark hunting.

Are we comparing seasons/episodes/writers now? I really don't have much to say on that matter since this season still isn't over yet. If there is one thing I will say is that my reactions felt more extreme this season then last (both positive and negative, though I'm sure some would say mostly negative).

There are some small inconsistencies with the world building here and there, but I'm sure that's from different writers handling various stuff at the same time, and of Lauren Faust not being completely on the show anymore by the time these were written.

We're moreso comparing seasons than anything else.
