Because I believe, and I'm not sure if she said this, but I got the impression that Lauren meant for ONLY THE PRINCESSES OF EQUESTRIA to be alicorns, thereby helping them be benelovent physical goddesses.

@Mio: The fans. I would assume the characters in the show already know she exists, or at least know that Alicorns are a thing.

Cadence is also a Princess of Equestria.

The thing is, Lauren specifically stated that Hasbro MADE the studio make Cadence an alicorn! She is apparently still confused by this, as it was decided after her leave.

Actually, her exact words were

I was very involved in the inception of the story, but I was surprised when I saw she is an alicorn. I don't know who made that decision, but it was after I was no longer working on the show.

We have no evidence that there is any sort of transition from Earth Pony/Unicorn/Pegasus to Alicorn. I think it more likely they are simply a 4th, extremely rare race with awesome powers.

Cadence is obviously a princess, which raises several questions, such as A) where the hell has she been all this time and B) where did she come from if she wasn't born with the Sisters? She's not on the flag.

@Bluspade: Well people are satisfied with Celestia and Luna because they have been established from the beginning. Since, no one else came along with wings and a horn until now people made the connection that was probably something special that was exclusive to them, and may or may not be explained later. Now that someone else is disturbing the established mythos here a lot of people will want an explanation, even if it is just "oh the wings and horn thing really isn't anything special".

I think maaaaybe we should wait until the episode airs before worrying about stuff. Cause this is the finale and lawd I don't really want the thread to be occupied with worrying about Cadence.

Besides, there's a picture of an alicorn in "Hearts and Hooves Day, " so that worldbuilding is already a bit broked.

Celestia and Luna have been alive a loooooooong time, I would assume they have offspring somewhere (Blueblood is supposed to be related to them after all). Cadence might just be a minor relative.

Offspring with who? Despite the whole nephew thing with Blueblood (and even he has been implied to not really be related), we don't see the Sisters have any family beyond themselves.

True, but as of right now we don't have that insight so don't be surprised about people questioning why Cadence is the way she is and what it may imply.

I honestly have no idea how I feel about Blueblood. Every time he comes up I feel this urge to defend him, even though canonically I know he was a boorish twerp. I'm just inclined to think things like he was just trolling Rarity (lord knows she deserved it), even though it completely messes with the reason why I defend him...

Word of Faust is that Celestia and Luna have no other siblings or children, but they do have relatives including a mother.

Sounds like Cadence could be a cousin or something to me.

EDIT: Luna's implied to not even be fully grown. I doubt that she at least has been married before.
