The thing is, Lauren specifically stated that Hasbro MADE the studio make Cadence an alicorn! She is apparently still confused by this, as it was decided after her leave.

@Bluespade: Have wings and horn is kind of implied to be a special thing, since the only ones who have them are the local god-like monarchs. Since someone else suddenly comes along with a set of wings and horn of their own I would think that would raise questions. Even if that turned out to not be "special" at all it would still raise questions of why we haven't seen more around Equestria.

Yeah, but if people are satisfied knowing with Luna and Celestia being alicorns for no apparent reason, why would they be surprised by another one showing up? Maybe she's in charge of the stars or something.
