Fluttershy goes into the Everfree in search of a lost animal and learns a lot about the forest and it's denizens in her journey. Boom, I'd want to watch that.

The problem with giving SS and DT more moments in the limelight is that it's not feasible, I mean when you think about it, they're side characters to side characters. I mean you can't get any more minor that being relevant only when the secondary characters are around who by definition or not around that much to begin with.

Where the hell did it even come from? Had it just been hanging out in the bog that whole time and no pony knew about it? Fluttershy didn't seem apprehensive about going there, so the place didn't have a reputation for ponies disappearing or anything. Maybe it wandered out of the forest?

Razorfang cast it out of the Everfree recently when it tried to usurp his territory. It hasn't been living in the Bog for long.

Now why do you all have to be so mean? Obviously the hydra simply had a sore tooth that he was hoping to have Twilight take a look at. It isn't his fault the hydra language consists solely of terrifying roars.

I assumed it was separate from the forest based on how casually Fluttershy treated it. Either that or she figured the best way to lower the frog population was to feed them to the Everfree monsters.

Unless the Hydra chews, or has a resilient digestive system, or has strong digestive enzymes/acid, or has regenerative abilities or many many factors.
