[up][up] On the other hand, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon have both more screen time and the advantage of being in Ponyville. Something no other antagonist can say.

Bad: Even going on that speculation and giving them the benefit of the doubt, I can't shake that "Yea, I got my cutie mark! In your face!" wouldn't likely be their reaction.

I will admit that like mentioned above, I've known bullies similar to them that have mellowed out after a while. But that's after years and does nothing to rectify the damage they already did.

[up][up][up][up][up] I know what you mean Ginger, I'm currently reading a fic which involves the redemption of Fluttercruel (discorded Fluttershy) of all ponies. It's very good. ^_^

Hm....That seems interesting. Fluttershy always seemed like the least likely of all the ponies to fall to the darkside.

[up][up][up] Well yeah, what they did after they got their Cutie Marks was malicious. But that doesn't mean they got their Cutie Marks for being malicious.

@Lurker Batman TAS has had entire episodes dedicated to its antagonists, with the antagonists as the primary focus, and they're still considered antagonists.

In a series, I think an antagonist (not using the term villain, since they aren't villains) can have a Day in the Limelight episode while still being considered an antagonist overall.

Wow, I used the word antagonist a lot [lol]

[up] While overall they would remain the antagonist, in a story dedicated to an antagonist they would briefly, in the context of that story, be the protagonist.

[up] Exactly. That's what I said. Overall, they would still be considered an antagonist. and that's all I care about

[up] So, you want a redemption story for them, but you also want them to remain antagonists?

Well, in the strictest literary sense, the protagonist is the focus of the story, and the antagonist is anyone who opposes or hinders them. You can spin it any way you'd like on an overall scale, but the Villain Protagonist and Hero Antagonist tropes exist for a reason.

Technicaly speaking the atagonist is simply something that creates change in the protagonist and the protaonigst is something that is changed by the antagonist.

Neither have to be characters.

@Bad not necessarily a REDEMPTION story for them .(though that WOULD be nice) More an episode that just fleshes them out a bit.

I like my antagonists well-rounded too, thank you very much

[up][up]I've taken several diffrent Creative Writing and English classes, and they all to some degree or another have varying definitons of Protagonist and Antagonist. That is the most comphrensive one I've ever known and the one I perfer to use since it's true: the antagnoist AND the protagnoist can both be ideas, not characters (though they not at the same time).

[up][up] Gotcha. Blueblood would be interesting to have an episode, but as I said before he only has one episode, DT and SS have what, 4? So if anyone is going to have an episode it will be them or fan favourite Trixie.

Simply being "The Bad Guy" is no excuse to not find an antagonist interesting. I've always disliked the notion that you NEED to like a protagonist more than his/her counterpart. If anything, the main character is usually the character I like the least

@ L Mage I know they can be ideas or forces, that's not the problem. The problem is that your definition defines protagonist and antagonist by change, when that simply isn't the case. A protagonist can go through a story without changing (Applejack in the most recent episode is a great example), and an antagonist can just as easily be changed by the protagonist as they can change it instead. Furthermore, if the protagonist is defined by their relationship to the antagonist, then that means there can't be a protagonist without an antagonist, and that is most certainly not true either.

Hm. I wouldn't mind DT or SS getting a day in the limelight episode. I'm not the biggest trixie fan, but if they find someway to make it interesting without resorting to gratuitous amounts of ham, I might watch.

Ginger, what matters is that you gave it your all in the interview. If you allowed your passion come through, I'm sure that left a pretty good impression on the interviewer

@ Lurker The story is defined by the relationship between the antagonist the protagonist. Also I am using a much borader definiton of "changed". You are thinking in terms of character devlopment, my definition looks purely from a story presepctive.

In the most recent episode the change Flim and Flam invoke in AJ is they create a conflict that she must act to resolve, if they had never arrived then she would have carried on making and selling cider like normal and there would have been no story.

Personally, I just think all the antagonists are interesting enough to warrant Day in the Limelight episodes. waii

[up] They seem pretty nice when they're not in swarm mode. I wouldn't mind seeing how they usually live in the Everfree forest.
