By the way, is it a safe assumption that unless using magic is the point of the episode like with Nightmare Moon and Ursa Minor, Twilight's magic is not allowed to solve the plot?

Also, I went to the RI&W episode page to add a Reading Rainbow reference, only to find that someone else already did it two weeks ago. I feel so unoriginal.

The only time her magic could have solved the plot that I can think of is at the end of Feeling Pinkie Keen, where she could have teleported across the canyon. Other than that, the conflicts tend to either be personal problems or too mysterious for her magic to be of use (or it backfires).

@Arha: Yeah, Twilight isn't really a Deus Exmachina, so don't worry about that. As often as not, her big "save the day" spells end up having the reverse effect.

Well, I just got lost on the internet, but I did end up finding this. Apparently, Weird Al Yankovic (its his song in the clip) has been asked to voice in the show. Not sure if he accepted though. (or if it even is true at all.)

I still say that cutie marks are a combination between Breasts (the show off potential and feelings of inadequacy in those who don't have them yet) and periods (the way it happens so suddenly)

@Ginger Because all ponies are girls, right? I think you're reading quite a bit too far into it.

From a sociologcal and psyhcological stand point I think ginger's point stands.

I definitely viewed it in the same manner, hence my original comment.

For guys, substitute...chest or facial hair, I guess, I wasn't really paying attention when I was that age.

I mean, yeah, the puberty parallel is obvious, but it's more about growing up than sex in this situation, and Ginger's evaluation of it jumps straight to sex.

I think it's more that those are just the most obvious indicators of puberty, and thus the closest analogue to the Cutie Marks.

@Lurker I was merely remarking on the fact that in Call of the Cutie, DT&SS were showing off their cutie marks in a manner completely dissasociated from what they're supposed to represent. They wore them like a badge, like they're something to be shown off. Girls in real life show off their breasts for no other reason beyond the fact that they have them. Completely ignoring what being old enough to have breasts means on a deeper level.

That's what I meant, they weren't showing off their cutie marks in a "Look, we're more grown up than you" manner, they were doing it in a "look! I have this and you don't" manner
