Since the pop culture that produced the word "derp" doesn't exist in Equestria, Derpy is a perfectly fine, if nonsensical, name.

I honestly don't know what's worse, the fact that the guy was offended by Derpy or the fact that he automatically assumed that sounding stupid = being stupid. I mean sure, her voice did sound weird at first but that doesn't mean that she was impaired or anything.

Also, I think that the next time we see her, Derpy should be paired up with Rainbow again just because I think that it'd be funny for them to try doing something together just to end up in a 3 stooges sorta thing. Might not work for a Derpy centered episode but it could be a good one off gag...in my opinion anyway.

Better yet, what do you guys think would happen if Derpy and Pinkie were in a scene together?

The show would implode.

What can I say, you're an excellent motivator. Probably would've taken longer for me to try harder without your input.

Yeah, I think he's blowing it out of proportion. Being clumsy + having a dopey voice =/= mentally challenged. And he's not really helping his case by perpetuating that stereotype. I mean, if anything he's giving it credence by actually assuming that she's retarded based solely on her voice.

No thoughts on Derpy being the star of a bully episode? It would make for a good asope.

I feel like that would be uncomfortably heavy handed, although if any show could pull it off, it's this one.

Maybe Pinkie, Rainbow, and Applejack could help her out with her bullying problem.

Yeah, she can't be that dumb, otherwise she wouldn't be a functioning member of society. She's probably been able to hold down a job, either doing mail or weather (I like to think of it as deliveries primarily, but with weather duty done on the side), so she has to be at least reasonably competent, if a bit clumsy. And once again I'll say that I found her to be quite sweet and kind hearted in the episode, and even felt a little sad when RD chewed her out.
