I think it's more a jab about how by comparison (or lack of definitive physical proof of a god VS their very real very present very fun loving goddess(es)) we come across as rather…lacking and that the ponies would probably laugh in our faces at the concept of "our god(s)"

Ponies have their own myths and legends to. I seriously doubt that they would "laugh" at our concept of deities (though some would probably find it odd).

To be quiet honest we haven't seen Celestia do all that much in the way of actual "ruling" either.

Instead she is treated with fear and suspicion where ever she goes.She's obviously got the better deal.

Yes but Luna has a big advantage she just needs to learn to make some friends and connect with other ponies and she will be fine. She still has a lot to learn and therefore she is still free to make many mistakes.

On the other hand Celestia being the wisest and most important pony of all really can't be "inmature" or playful beyond some pranks. In fact she had the burden of all the government without Luna.

Luna can act crazy now and then with no problem whatsoever. Celestia doesn't have that luxury if she loses control like Luna did even for a day it would be bad for all the ponies.

Celestia has problay the biggest weight on her whenever something happens ex Discord.

I still wonder what Luna was thinking when she went out to Ponyville that night. For some one who has lived for hundreds of years (thousand year imprisonment aside), she is really quite dim.

Luna had a reason, to go to that party. Sure, it was a personal reason, but if she is to be seen as a legitimate ruler again, she needed to fix her rep. It's as much good for the kingdom as it is for her own peace of mind. Thankfully, she went on the one day where her natural intimidation factor can be spun in a positive light, due to the spirit of the holdiay, which let the other ponies feel safe enough to get to know the real her[[hottip*:this makes way more sense to me than "they were all pretending". I don't even understand how people reach that conclusion, especially since the letter to Celestia was about first impressions and getting to know people and such. And considering the very real discomfort of, well, everyone except Pinkie]].

Aye, but Rainbow Dash is a Ponyville resident, if not exactly native. Again, irrational fear of being associated with Ponyville, thanks to Jet Set and Upper Crust. Mentioning the Best Young Fliers competition would be met with either "what's a 'rooster'?"-level snooty ignorance, or even worse, they would know who the winner of the competition was and where she hailed from.

Celestia is a bit more subtle about her zaniness.

Like getting Twilight and company to trash the Gala for her amusement. And I mean that in the best way possible.

@JT Well, if PEST problems are enough to grab her attention, and if the mayor of ponyville can arrange a meeting with her on a whim, I don't see how she can delegate THAT much.

What I meant was that her visit wasn't official in any way. She didn't NEED to go there due to professional obligations

@Ginger: Thing is, if she didn't delegate you're typical "running the country" stuff, she probably wouldn't have time to make those sorts of visits. Times like those are the only times she really gets to mingle with the common ponies, so it make sense she'd try to do as many visits and stuff as she could manage.

Let's compare Celestia's and Luna's parties.

Everyone in the mane cast and even the cake's looked at her as "the princess" But it was obvious that none of the saw her as a "friend"

Celestia is hardly ever treated by anyone as a friend now that I think about it.Rarity kissed her hooves in her visit to Canterlot for instance and sometimes even her faithful student twilight is scared of her.

Now Luna was even lectured by Twilight! and got close to AJ. While Pinkie even played that "being scary is fun" gane with her and won the love of the kids (specially Pibsqueak). Se even had the chance to play some pranks and some games.

Yeah I am sure Luna has the best deal
