I can't really say. I can only judge things based on the mood they put me in.

This made me sad, so I didn't like it. but I guess if that was the point, then it's effective. Then again, I get misty eyed over sad synopsis alone (when it comes to mlp at least) so I can't accurately gauge if it's good by OTHER people's standards

No she doesn't to be doing it at any points where I think Trixie would be lying. I think happens when she appears hurt that Applebloom doesn't like her and when she's telling Phoenix not to upset Applebloom. Is it just because Trixie is showing compassion?
