I'm now imagining Sparkler being hired on as Scoot's big sister, only to be rejected because of Scoot's obsession with RD. Sparkler then tries her darndest to prove herself.

I found most of the moments that could be considered narmy more funny.

Most of them involving Rarity.

but narm IS funny. That's the definition. Something serious that ends up being funny because of how over the top it is

^There is an element of laughing at the line, though. I guess the question here is whether lines that are intentionally hammy can also qualify for Narm if they're even hammier than was intended?

Narm is HIGHLY subjective (I disagree with most of the Code Geass narm page for example)

For me, it's the voice crack that makes it funny.

Not really much I can find narmy, since things turn out happy anyways, which already sets my expectations for not taking things very seriously.

The main reason I don't see much narm in the show is because almost all the Melodrama is intentional and played for laughs. Stuff like Spike's reaction shows that the writers know it's over the top and did it like that on purpose.

I also like the Big Sister foundation idea. My personal fanon is that Ditzy is a single mother, so Dinky hangs out with Sparkler while Ditzy's out working.

In MTBPW, how did AJ and the others manage to get to the other side of the gorge quicker than the racers could?

It was done pretty casually as well. None of them looked out of breath, and they got there WELL before the race was over

There's no way in HELL we were supposed to take Spike seriously in that scene

So no, I wouldn't say it counts

The mane cast were looking down on RD at the start line

I don't think any of those really explains it on it's own, but if you put all of them into play, it makes more sense:

The gorge could be curved.
Twilight could use her magic to move everypony.
The rest of the ponies didn't have to dodge obstacles the whole way.
Offscreen Teleportation.

On the subject of Twilight teleporting, she seems to forget about it a lot. But can she send multiple ponies? The time Spike teleported with her, he seemed a bit burnt.

Twilight was teleporting all over the place during "Applebuck Season", then I don't think she used it a lot until Lesson Zero came.

Most fantasy settings mark dragons as immune to magic - maybe he just reacted poorly to it? Like, he was too young to completely reject it but he mucked it up a bit?
