... Here, try some Astérix. You might find it funny.

A case of true love has the same redeeming power as a case of genuine curiosity: they are the same.

Moral Event Horizon

given what Gilda did and didn't know at the time, I think her other Kick the Dog moments were far worse than the Fluttershy moment, yet that's the one most people hate her for.

And I would honestly agree.

As dickish as yelling at Fluttershy was I was far more offended by her stealing apples in broad daylight, but thats just me.

[up][up][up]What Asterix have to do with Ponies? Unless you have link for pony version of Asterix, that would be cool.

It was in response to a reference that sounded like something from Asterix (in Asterix and the Black Gold, petroleum is an essential component of the Magic potion, but Getafix exhausts his supplies and Asterix has to hurry and get some from the Middle East, otherwise the village is defenceless... when he comes back, Getafix had found that some beetroot juice did the trick just as well if not better). I remember something about Zecora replacing some exotic ingredient with something more mundane.

AND I CAN'T FIND A SINGLE INSTANCE OF ASTERIX AND PONIES CROSSING OVER, NOT EVEN ONE.

Which kinda makes sense, I mean Asterix's world is based entirely on war and conflict between The Empire and some plucky villagers, as well as national stereotypes. It's one thing to fit Rohan into Equestria, and quite another to put Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Britain, all ruled by The Empire. Unless it's a power that rivals that of Celestia. Maybe a Sky God or something?

[up][up][up][up] What do they look like to you then?

[up][up][up] She didn't even know who Fluttershy was. RD knew who she was, and was still willing to prank her before Pinkie stepped in. That's what bugs me [lol]

You, um, click on the pictures? If you're talking about non-slideshow style, open the pictures in new tabs.

No, how do you get it to do a slideshow? I hate having to click on each picture individually.

Nevermind: I think I had a problem with javascript being blocked.

If bullying and larceny can get you across the Moral Event Horizon, then I'd have to ask how much of a saint you have to be to be considered an average Joe.

@Red Savant: You did good work with your teen crusaders.

On NMM's style of speaking: I think it's a combination of not caring about formality and having a better idea of what happened in the world than Luna. NOTE: I'm not saying that they're different ponies. Just that NMM could watch Equestria from the moon, but when she was zapped with Harmony, her memories of that time became more fuzzy even though they're still there.

Oh yeah, and I agree that what Gilda did to Granny Smith was worse than what she did to Fluttershy.

[up][up][up][up][up]I honestly think that you are assuming that these characters know each other better then they really do (especially at that point in the show). Besides, RD has proven that she is not all that discriminant about who she pranks.

That doesn't explain newly-depowered Luna from the first season, though...

(Granted, she only said one line...)

Gilda's real flaw is that she can dish it out but she can't take it. Even Rainbow Dash knows how to take a good prank on her in stride.

[up][up]A combination of Early Installment Weirdness, and Rule of Funny in her subsequent appearance is really the only reasonable explanation for the discrepency.

Luna couldn't have spoken in ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE! the first time we saw her. She was speaking to Celestia. She said that ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE IS FOR ADDRESSING SUBJECTS! Celestia isn't her subject.

I've actually been struggling with making sure that Gilda's redemption for pranking Granny Smith is appropriate... consequently, it's taken me about a month to finish this chapter of Gryphon A Second Chance. =| What Gilda did shouldn't be minimized, but neither should she be threatened with death for it; she's a jerk, but not an irredeemable one. She just doesn't know any better because no one's ever told her - or, if necessary, literally taught her a lesson.

@Kyler

Yeah, the fact that so many people genuinely want to see Gilda DEAD quite frankly disgusts me.

She came nowhere NEAR the MEH.

[up] That's pretty much the best defence we have for her. Now we just need one for DT&SS [lol]

[up] Well, why not redeem her? This is an optimistic show. It's all about forgiveness, love, and all that good stuff. Unless a villain proves themselves to be 100% evil then there's no reason why they SHOULDN'T be forgiven.

^Exactly. I kind of feel like Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon are wasted potential in that respect - they're two-dimensional Libbies in a show that espouses love and tolerance of others' flaws. Granted, they can't teach kids to forgive everything - that's not friendship either - but it'd be nice to see some of the antagonists come around.

@ Kayeka

Hey! That was the same idea I had for that. Great minds come up with the same ideas I do, it seems.

I was actually thinking of maybe writing a fanfiction about Luna's fall. One idea I had was that in one scene, Luna would be arguing with Celestia about her refusal to set the moon, and she starts using informal speech during the argument, practically spitting her first "you" and "I" and such like that.

Would anyone be interested in something like that?

[up][up][up]This doesn't mean that every character in show must become good and nice.

Gilda simply don't deserve screen time for that thing (at least for me), not even fanfic.

And fans most time only give her leather pants.
