Kix: There's nothing to stop them from doing that if they want to. But that's a point for protecting their trademark. If they decided they wanted to do that and Fighting is Magic already ate up the market, then that's lost investment.

That's not the point, though. The point is that Fighting is Magic was polished enough to be pushed into a professional video game arena. That is a giant red flag for any company that actually own the property. What Fighting is Magic needed to do was stay under the radar and what they actually did was the equivalent of driving down the street in front of Hasbro's HQ with a loudspeaker playing a message saying "Please C&D us now!" over and over.

You played Civ1? I have many fond memories of that game, with its glorious brokenness. I never played any of the others though.

Yeah, as sad as it is that Fighting Is Magic got shut down, they were incredibly lucky to get as far as they did. I mean, let's face it, if you're trying to not get C&D'd, having the game be featured at a fighting game convention alongside professionally made products is not something you should do. Honestly, the whole thing comes more across as Hasbro turning a blind eye to the thing until it got so well known they were legally obligated to step in.

For someone that has actually rode down the streets in that fashion, it actually makes sense. And since one of the reasons I want to become a game designer is to do something similar to this, this is actually good advice.

(In elderly voice) Back in my day we had things like, Pac-man, Donkey Kong, Centerpide and Space Invaders! We didn't have all this beeping and booping like they do with games nowadays, swearing like navy officers and drinking booze while they do so! And we had was just one button and no wireless thingymawhatsits that young'uns call Kinect!

Around Equestria in...seven days?

The only arcade game I can honestly say I was "good" at was Q*Bert. I had the maximum number of extra Q*Bert lives all lined up and ready to go. Then I reached a certain advanced level and started sucking like a novice.
