I still am poor!

No. It was neither Mancala nor Nine Man's Morris.

Had a Zulu name.

You have a collection of rocks in a circle and you have to throw another rock into the air and then move exactly one rock out of the circle and then catch the rock before it hits the ground. Then repeat and put the rock back. Then do the same with exactly two rocks. Then three etc. Don't remember all the rules.

The what now? Kay I know I'm new to the fanbase but what is "Pony Pox"? Is it like their version of chicken pox?

Huh. Nope, never heard of it then.

Also, wouldn't really be able to distinguish a Zulu name from any other given african language name, I'm afraid.

@Starscream: Similar. It's from a rather late episode.

I've seen Mancala boards at University, but I don't know how to play.

I've actually developed a couple of bard games myself. Only one's been playtested though and it's woefully out of date. Needs updating. Was a lot of fun though.

I remember Mancala. Haven't played it in years, though.

@Sereg: Sounds kinda like a larger scale version of Jacks/Knucklebones.

Ah, Snakes and Ladders. Such a convoluted, drawn-out way of drawing straws.

Do the bard games include instruments, or do players have to provide their own?
Oooh, a dA link sig, how original.

Analogue games are actually really fun to design. They've got a lot less to deal with in terms of complexity, even a particularly complex game, so there's a lot more room to really focus on them and tweak everything a lot. Card games, too. I'm working on a card game to show off in my portfolio at the moment. Only trouble with card games is finding a way to reduce the randomness.

[up][up] You mean not any skill.

Unless you introduce house rules or something.

@Sereg Well that it explains why Pinkie didn't come when I was depressed but opens another question that won't get an answer but okay cool. Or not cool in this case.

@Pinkie Tell me something, what exactly is it about parties that drives ya?

There's literally no skill involved. It's a 'game' designed to be played with little kids who don't know how to play a real game but still like winning.

@JT: I'd heard of Jacks, but didn' know the rules. Seems like their are a lot of similarities, and indeed:

A similar game is played in many African countries using pebbles without a rubber ball.

Yeah, Snakes and Ladders is irritating due to being all luck.

SA created the best board game. Bounty.

My only attempt at designing an analogue game to date was a disaster.

I've designed a few homebrew pen & paper SRPGs with varying degrees of success (from not even getting completed to play-tested by friends for a couple years).

Hey speaking of analogue games, anyone ever played Resistance Avalon? I discovered it this summer and it's quite fun.

I'm working on developing a play by post fantasy RPG for the forums here right now. I've got pretty much all the macro worldbuilding done and a fair amount of micro, but I'm struggling more with developing the mechanics.

I think the hardest part is actually getting active players. Hopefully it will turn out better than Sereg's.

Yeah, in general finding consistent participants is the hard part. CDRW had a really interesting alien-based Sci-fi RP a while back, but it fizzled out because everyone was too busy to keep it going.

Though in general that problem has always given me issues. It's why pretty much all of my gaming experience has been single-player; I can never find reliable people to play with. The only exceptions are things like Settles Of Catan that my parents also like.

...You know what, why not? It makes sense, in a way.

I'm starting to see these types of images everywhere. Where did the "Rarity is a snugglefiend" thing come from, anyway?

And finally, Celestia is a banana:

No, I have no idea what I just watched, either.
I have no hat and I must scream.
