[up][up][up] "really interesting alien-based Sci-fi RP"

Can you tell more?

Can Clifford talk? Anyway, he probably wouldn't fit through the mirror.

I don't think he can, but when you're that big, you don't need to.

I've only watched a few episodes of the cartoon, but the most talking he does is with other dogs.

Yeah, he can't talk to humans. I think he talks to other creatures from time to time, but it's mostly with his group of friends.

I'm sorry to say, you've been eaten by a Grue.

I think the hardest part is actually getting active players.

I'm not too worried on that front. I already have a few of the more active people from the RP I'm currently involved in expressing interest, and I intend to keep the player count relatively low to begin with.

Ha, speaking of that RP, I totally forgot about this. The power of pony derails is all-consuming.

What am I missing in regards to a roleplay by Wryte? I wind up away from keyboard for a good chunk, and I miss something that catches my eye.

In any case, I'm back from all the real life interventions.
It's a Demonic Lighthouse Slide! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I beg of you, Durza, make it so.

^^ No, it's just a forum RPG. I don't run that one, anyway, I'm just a player.

Though granted, the video game I am planning involves girls with magic, but not Magical Girls, and is a ripoff inspired by Chrono Trigger.

^ Everyone was talking about their ideas for games of various kinds, and I mentioned that I'm currently developing a play by post for the forums here.

Are you actually making a videogame or just imagining ideas for one?

Somewhere between the two. I'm doing character designs, working on plots and sidequests, thinking about combat mechanics, spell/ability lists, character strengths and weaknesses, etc. etc.

This is a very long term goal, though. Like, once I get into a game company working on other people's games until I have the clout to pitch my own game.

I guess the problem is that it's easy to come up with ideas but very hard to actually make anything of them. I've long had ideas for several videogames but I doubt anything will ever come of it, even the one that is theoretically within my abilities to make.

Everyone and their brother has ideas. Oftentimes, even good ideas. But what few people have is a product (whether a completed game, or even just a demo or prototype), and the effort and time pitched in to make it.

Also, Wryte, why wait? Why not cobble something together in your spare time right now? "Here's a thing I used to work on" has more weight than "hey I have this awesome idea".

Because I have absolutely zero programming knowledge. I intend to get into the game industry as a writer.

Plus, besides those two games, I'm also working on my art and writing a fantasy novel right now.

Speaking of ideas, I've been trying to put together some of the backstory for a story I'm writing. I could link it if anybody would be interested for some reason.

Here you go.

It's a Constructed World fantasy story. What's in there is basically a rough outline of the plot and character/setting/cosmology etc.) as well as an in-universe book that I wanted to write ahead of time so it's consistent when the characters reference it. Comments should be enabled, so feel free to ask questions.

Also, there are tons of game engines that will do the heavy lifting for you.

That, or join a team who's making a game and is looking for a writer or something.

Kegisak will probably know more about this, but I think the game companies will be more impressed if you can show them a portfolio showing off your skills at writing specifically for video games.

For a small project, you'll probably have to do most of it yourself. But you can focus on one side or another. For example, if you like writing, you could make a visual novel in Renpy and not need to do any real programming. Art and sound would still be necessary of course.
