Maybe it's because I've only seen every episode exactly once but I can't really remember any pair of the mane 6 spending time together.

Pinkie Pie may not be the "single best friend" type. Instead, she's kind of friends with everyone in town. She's probably very extroverted.

How often does Pinkie hang out with just one pony and not annoy the crap out of them? The only one I can think of is Rainbow Dash, and that took a bit of doing on Pinkie's part.

Pinkie is like a spice. She adds flavor to the group, but you don't want her on her own.

Well Twilight being closest to Spike is a no brainer, they've been together so long there way past friendship and into family, and even more then that, as far as we can tell for most of her life Spike is the only person other then Celestia Twilight ever felt close to.

The rest...well it's clear that prior to episode one, none of the mane cast except Fluttershy and Rarity (So I keep hearing, not sure where the fact they were friends before hand came from.) rarely if ever hung out with each other, hence a large number of first season episodes showing different sets of ponies learning to get along with each other. While there are obviously sets of ponies with more complimentary personalities. I really don't think any one pony values one ponies friendship over the rest.

Not to say there aren't times when one of the mane six would rather spend time with one then the other, but I'd say most of those just hinge on how that pony was feeling, sometimes they'd be to exhausted to deal with Pinkie's hyperness, or a bit to stressed to deal with Rarity's drama queening, but there is such variety amongst them, it easy to see how at times, one pony's company would be better then anothers. For instance, I see Fluttershy as being the perfect pony to go to when you just really need to talk to someone about something, just for the sake of talking and getting it out etc..

And yeah that kinda got away from me there. Short version, while there may be ponies amongst the mane six that get a long a bit better with each other then the rest, each one of them brings something the rest value in a friendship.

Pinkie doesn't seem the type to get particularly CLOSE to anyone. She's more of the "Have fun in the moment" sort

Onto something else I had pop into my head at work today, we all know (at least in America) there is one sure way to know you've broken into pop-culture, one thing that has had versions of it made for damn near anything that there becomes a decent following for, so I got to thinking just how the MLP version of it would look..

I'm talking of course about what a Ponyopoly board would look like.

Obviously boardwalk would be Cantorlot. Figure Go To Jail, would be Get Sent To The Moon, pieces would be each of the main six... any ideas?

I do think she's never gotten close to anypony before, but I think that's more because she doesn't really know how than it is by choice. She doesn't show it often but she's pretty desperate to keep the friends she's made. And out of the six she seems closest to Dash.

she also seems to be very close with twilight. Yeah they almost always collide, but they share a lot of time together.
