I don't know, maybe it's because of my negative outlook on her half the time, but Pinkie strikes me as being relatively distant from people. Her method of thinking is so incredibly different from everyone else's that I don't see how she can relate to them. She cares about her friends, no doubt, but I don't think they know all that much about her, nor do I think she understands them all that well

I'd say Pinkie Pie shows Twilight a lot of affection that isn't often reciprocated. I also think Pinkie and Rarity like to hang out together when they think no one is looking.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I think that's because she honestly doesn't really know how to relate all that well. Her go to thing is to throw a party, but outside that she's socially incompetent. It's a little sad actually. Twilight and co are probably the first ponies she's been friends with.

Yeah, Twilight does seem to brush her off fairly often. Come on Twi, embrace the Pink! ...ie Pie!

Nope acrually Pinkie is the most sociable pony of the mane cast. In fact in episode 1 she said that she knew everypony on town.

knew them, yes. But only casually. there's a diference in knowing someone and being freinds with them. Pinkie's always just had the most superficial relatiomships with pony's. She just to flighty and, odd i guess...to really know how to connect with other pony's on a deeper level.

There is a huge difference between knowing someone and being friends with them. I have no doubt that Pinkie has been to a party with every pony in Ponyville and has memorized their names, but how many of them do you think she was close to? Outside the Cakes she doesn't hang out with anyone not in the mane cast. Heck, even Twi hangs out with Cheerilee.

I dunno If they are deep or close (no canon evidence of it). But she had a very easy time gathering ponies.

For instance in the episode with the golden ticked she got a lot of ponies to bribe twilight.Pinkie is the one that gathers a lot of ponies easily

Forgot to mention that it was Pinkie that claimed to have a lot of friends in episode 1 (that's why she ofered to help twilight getting fiends)

But I agree she is perhaps closest with the mane cast.

She can get along with everyone fine, but how many of them know much about her as a person (pony)? I don't even think the cast knows that much about Pinkie tbh.

Which is why I say distant, she keeps things on a strictly casual (and fun) level, rther than trying to get to know someone deeply.

I get the idea that Pinkie is the type would have a lot of friendships with ponies around town, but isn't particularly close to most of them. Twilight isn't familiar with a lot of the ponies, but the friends she does have are a lot closer.

They know quite a bit, it's just that what everyone knows varies by pony and tends to swerve about wildly at odd moments.

RD and Pinkie became a lot closer during Griffon the Brush-Off; before then, they were both in the group marked "friends with Twilight" but never really fit into "friends with each other". It would fit that if Pinkie's...episode in Party of One was her first since Twilight moved to Ponyville, RD wouldn't know about past ones because until they bonded over their love of pranks, Pinkie was just "that one annoying hyperactive earth pony" and her disappearing for a while wasn't too serious.

Its interesting because I can sort of see a close four pony friendship with the likes of RD, AJ, Rarity, and Fluttershy, in that each one has a strong bond with at least two others. Yeah Rarity and Rainbow Dash aren't particularly close, nor are Applejack and Fluttershy, but still.

In that regard Pinkie and Twilight do seem to stick out a bit.

Still waiting for a Legion of Losers movie...
