Depressing when you consider that no matter how long he waits, he'll probably never become an adult dragon in time to go after Rarity.

I kinda hope he gets her (even if it's only in the final episode). Spike deserves SOMEONE. He is going to have a DEPRESSING life

Because it's gross and wrong. A child character should never date an adult character. I don't care if baaww he'll end up alone!1 This is NOT a romantic series. There are more things to life than goddamn romance. For crying out loud, why the fuck does everyone have to be so damn emo over this thing? Guess what? People grow up and get different relationships. Or SHOCK! can be perfectly happy WITHOUT.

And yes, shipping adults with kids is my berserk button or whatever.

The age thing doesn't bother me that much, if only because this is a fantasy setting and the two of them have entirely different lifespans. Plus, most of the stories I've heard of occur once Spike has gotten a bit older. Besides, it's pretty much just a childhood crush on his part anyways. He should hopefully grow out of it before an actual relationship is even feasible. But as for the cross-species thing, that's enough to turn me off of the pairing, so I guess it's a moot point.

Outlive everyone but Celestia and Luna, maybe. Besides, perhaps the show is building it so Twilight becomes the next Alicorn to rule Equestria, and if that's true, maybe she gains immortality or a REALLY long lifespan so Spike'll have at least one of his closer friends near.

The lifespan thing makes it worse, actually. if he's 10, and he lives to be 1000, that's different than a 10 year old who will live to be 70.
