I was watching Dragonshy and just realized that the dragon is voiced by Blu Makuma AKA Flutterguy.

The ponies were remarking how it was unusual to see a dragon. "What in th name of cinnamon swirl is a full grown dragon doing here in Equestria?" So dragons obviously moved there from outside whatever is considered Equestria, so it ceratinly can't mean the whole planet.

Does anyone know of a side-by-side comparision of Twilight's old magic aura vs. her new one? Or aura's for any other character for that matter?

Yet no one is EVER alarmed by Spike? Surely the peculiarity of his species should serve to turn at least a few heads

Spike can only cause OMG BABY DRAGON reaction. But propably other ponies are not obsesed with animals and other creatures llike Flutershy.

It's STILL unusual. If baby dragons are so reare, to the point where a nature nut like Fluttershy hasn't actually seen one, then logically no one else should've either. At least no one in Ponyville.

No one reacts real strongly to Spike because he's a baby; what most ponies presumably think of when they hear "dragon" is a full grown one. Spike is so different that he doesn't receive the same response. Either that or most of the responses are offscreen and in onscreen interactions the ponies have just gotten used to having him around. I mean, if "hatching a dragon egg" is a requirement for the entrance exam at Celestia's school, baby dragons can't be that uncommon. I mean, yeah, they're rare, but it's entirely possible that some of the ponies have seen them before.

Fluttershy's response was a combination of Cuteness Proximity and excitement at getting to actually meet a baby dragon. If I remember correctly, she recognized that Spike was a baby dragon as soon as she saw him, so she must be at least kinda familiar with what they look like.

They propaly have reaction offscreen. Scenes when ponies or others react "Hey it's baby dragon" could be pointless.

I still want to see the fact that he's a dragon get explored a bit more. I mean, he's the only one of his kind in Ponyville, his capabilities are also very different.

Propably not if entrence exam for Unicorn School is about hatching dragon egg.

If that's the case then let's see an episode where we see one. Spike being a dragon really doesn't mean much to the plot. He is of a COMPLETELY different race to his friends, with a different lifespan, different habits, different physical cababilities. I think it offers a lot of potential for interesting stories.

I wonder if all dragons of Spike's particular species have his "fax machine" capabilities.

Spike is an odd duck among the cast too, so I can see another reason why Fluttershy would be interested in him.

I get the feeling dragons have loooooong life-spans. This would explain how Spike remains in the image of an infant for the entire span of the show, yet can still talk and think like a level-headed pubescent.

There's a lot of tearjerker fanon about Twilight thinking about Spike growing up. It's pretty sad, if you think about it.

Shouldn't the fact that he'll probably outlive the rest of the cast by several thousand years be an even BIGGER Tear Jerker?

Dragons consider 100 years to be a nap.

I read a fic a while ago about Spike going to Twilight's funeral. It was uber sad.

if a nap is 100 years, Twilight will probably grow old and die long before Spike gets too big to live with her... not that that's a much better prospect.

I remember a fic (the one with old Spike and the statue) which said that all ponies are eventually reincarnated in a similar form...they simply wait it out until it's their turn to live again!

No, I'm thinking of the fic where Spike has Rarity turned to stone because she wants to stay beautiful forever. When Spike is too old to maintain the spell it wears off. They then die together

And as they go, the spirits of the rest of the mane cast appear before them...and Celestia isn't sad, because she knows that they'll all be back together again in some shape or form in the future.
