^It has been suggested in the past that Equestria's celestial body is a
disc, with a sun and moon that are much smaller than our own and much closer.
I do also kind of like the idea of other god-rulers... the
ibex Fireshaman, for instance, and Falalauria.

I'm a college student! I don't have time for this!
I get it that people of all age can like this show, but I still don't get what drives grown people to buying the merch...
Some just really like the ponies...not like that!...others realize it's the best way to make sure Hasbro sees the show as profitable and keep renewing it for more seasons.
Build a fool proof system, and the world will create a better fool.
From what we learn from show there are places outside from Celestria control (places what she not rule, places where she can banish somepony), there are other lands other than Equestria (like places where Zecora was born). I'm allmost 100% sure that Equestria is one coutry in world.
There nothing what sujest that world is flat, and nothing sujesting other godlike being in world (horever they will show up or be mentioned especially if they make more adventure style).
They are like the others. Strange, hideous, resisting, fighting. Only these were not like the others. They did not die.
They have world globes, so they're most likely on a planet.
I'd like to think Equestria is a state, and the entire planet is one country divided into states based on who lives there, dragons, griffons, etc.

I mean states like Nevada and Arkansas, not states as in countries. Maybe provinces would be a better term.

That not make sense, there no mention in show that have united goverment over world, not even something like UN.

Well, there's not many references to government at all, so most of this stuff is just fanon conjecture.

Yeah, there's nothing in the show that explicitly contradicts Equestria being a state in a larger nation, although Celestia has never been treated as anything other than the highest level of ruler, so if there are other states in that capacity, I'd say that it's more of a united nations style setup. Otherwise there's no reason to treat Celestia as a sovereign, which is what she's been portrayed as through the entire show.

But this is more like ignoring canon.

^^Read JTeeth's post. We know that Equestria has borders and that Celestia is the ruler of Equestria, not the world. It's pretty obvious that there must be other nations, especially given that Dragons, Zebras and Gryphons must have their own nations (or ponies would be more used to seeing them).
