She was wearing a freaking dog collar. I can't think of any way that's supposed to be remotely plausible. Plus, it's not like she's actually unable to fly so half the wangst is pointless right there. Admittedly, I only read the first two pages, but that was bad enough.

Ah. Well, the dog collar does get explained - Twi uses it to help her get around. Guess they don't have canes there... I dunno, I'll admit that part was kinda silly. Also, she still kinda can't fly in the same way that a blind person can't really drive. You technically can, yes, but it's not advised.

Different opinions I guess, but it did start to get better once it got more into story rather than establishing everything. it was a clumsy start, but I can't criticise it for that. I started mine without anything resembling story either, and spent a while on setup.

Avatar talk? I allway use (used) same character (from polish webcomic, so you probably not know him). Only switched to pony version later. But at some point I found cool Zombie Pony art and loved it.

Other animals may be mute, but I bet one like Angel could probably sucessfully petition for citizenship if he wanted. If I were to take a guess, though, I'd say sapience among the lower animals is a bit of an anomaly.

@Perpetual: I got the feeling that they wanted to to leave that bit intentionally ambiguous. Although they also said that the reason was that they wanted to the ponies to stand out more from the other animals in the setting, so I think the general rule is that animals aren't anthropomorphized as much as the ponies and other fully sapient races.

@JT Yeah, I get that. I'm just comparing the behavior of the likes of Angel, Owloicious, Tank, and the other finalists from MTBPW to how animals are normally portrayed, like with the rabbits in Applebuck Season.

Also, not part of the current discussion, but I checked the "What Other Items Do Customers Buy After Viewing This Item?" section for the Season 1 DVD on Amazon and found three other Pony DVDs, then The Dark Knight Rises.

2. The "official" rule on which animals can talk is apparently "hoofed mammals and mythological creatures" can talk, and all other animals are just animals.
