[up][up]RL Manhattan is kind of a melting pot. There are definitely highbrow restaurants and such, although with not-so-highbrow places.

I imagine Babs is from the little known Tangelo side of the family.

Also, I simply can't imagine Babs with her Bronx accent fitting in well with Upper Class Twits!

Maybe that's why she was bullied. On top of being a blank flank.

Do you think the CMC are the only ones who are allowed to say "blank flank?"tongue

The CMC (and Babs) are the only foals we've seen who don't have cutie marks. They're probably the only blank flanks in Equestria.tongue

Post of the Day #215

It's their character that is all part of the appeal. The little things about them, like Twilight's adorkable little tics, Rarity's DRAMA, AJ's reliability, and Dashie's little girlish squees and blushes that really endear them to me :3

Also, that the story doesn't think much of resolving conflicts with things other than shootouts wouldn't be such a problem if the action scenes weren't also kinda dull.

I think the shootouts are actually the most boring parts. There's only so many ways you can say Pip shoots stuff a lot.

Y'know...we see Twilight trying to learn all these spells which were presumably pre-existing. Have we ever ever seen how spells are made?

I had no issue with the action stuff.

And again nothing suggestes that only EP's can grow plants, but it would be within all rights to assume only they can grow food fast enough and well enough to feed Equestria. That most other ponies could do is a tiny personal garden. only EP's can grow enough, fast enough to feed everypony.

As to the past, basicly pegasi were the military, unicorns the nobility, and EP's the commoners. Not hard to see that the military and nobility always relied on the commoners to grow food, not becuase the other two couldn't, but simply they dind't want to and why should they bother learning how when others are doing it for them

in fact I believe he may be the only person older on this thread than myself. but I still could be wrong.

Lalei 2000 has come back a couple times to post. But I guess that doesn't count.

Anyway, I only started posting here on page 186.

I think the real reason was choice of habitation, since you can't grow food on mountains or clouds. Of course, the Earth Ponies are still better at it, but I'm sure a pegasus or a unicorn could be a sustenance farmer if they tried.

It wouldn't surprise me if clouds in the MLP-verse are edible and taste like candy floss.

Of course, this resulted in early pegasi having atrocious teeth.

But since they relied on E Ps, they didn't have the large body of knowledge about how to do it when they split up. Plus Blizzard.")

@Perpetual Lurker: Flower arranging, making salads, botany, decoration, etc. That doesn't even account for the talents where the flower is merely symbolic.

@JT: When I say "Equestria is dead", I'm not reffering to the political boundries. The deadness extends out a bit and the Everfree isn't dead.

@Whatshisgame: Clearly at least one of her friends is an earth pony.

@Seraphem: I see nothing wrong with only earth ponies growing plants because in our world, plants grow themselves. In Equestria, they don't. Equestria is wierd. Hurricane Fluttershy implies that they don't even have natural evapouration!

EDIT: @Tiggers: As the others have said, Babs would have been too young to appear in Cutie Mark Chronicles and the members of my on family have different accents as well. It's not that weird.

Dude, the whole evaporation thing is up for interpretation, as is everything else.tongue And again, HWE takes place quite far away from Equestria, at least when it starts. And they assumption that Equestria is totally dead doesn't make sense because obviously stuff like grass and flowers grow on their own. Food plants have to be cultivated, but there's never any solid indication that the place would be a barren wasteland if not for ponies.

If anything, we have evidence in the other direction; when the ponies arrived in Equestria in HWE, the place was already really nice. Unless they wrecked it completely sometime between the events of HWE and the present (which I find highly unlikely), I can't see how Equestria is a dead area.

As for the evaporation thing, I can't see how that's possible, given we have multiple cases where ponies are soaking wet and dry off normally; which is impossible without evaporation.

@Sereg I think you're taking implications that are way out of line with what is actually being implied again. Evaporation has to exist because saunas exist. Saunas run by Earth Ponies using the good old fashioned "boil the water over hot coals" method, so no magic is involved. Not to mention that things would never dry off after a rainfall otherwise.

I really can't see every single tree, plant, blade of grass, flower, EVERYTHING all needing a ponies personal touch. And the whole point of them moving TO Equestria was how fertile and rich with life the land was. AJ/Smart Cookie even makes not of how fertile the soil is.

And Word Of God already confirmed that ponies can't grow plants in a vacuum, they still need everything the plant needs to grow it, they simply help it do so faster and better. (It was in regards to people saying EP's would be able to use their magic to keep growing food without sunlight during NMM's endless night.)

Also, what [up][up][up], [up][up][up][up] they said. No evaporation means no steam, which we know for a fact isn't the case. In Hurricane Fluttershy, the issue wasn't that they didn't have any water to make rain, it was that if they wanted to control the weather properly they had to have the capacity to create clouds, which requires water. It was a question of convenience, not absolute necessity. It's like looking at human plumbing and assuming that because we use pumps to move water around, it must not be able to flow on its own.

and yes on the evaporation, they have it, it's proven, but what Equestria has done is tamed the weather to the point that clouds no longer form on their own, or at least not to the degree they do IRL. the water still evaporates, but once it's in the air it doesn't form clouds on it's own.
