Say, here's a thought. Say sea ponies do show up in the show - would you want to see them looking like the old sea ponies updated (ie. Sea horse with an actual horses head), or more like a hippocampus (top half of a horse, bottom half of a fish/porpoise)?

I'd prefer hippocampus, I think.

Yeah, I'd go with hippocampus, mainly for the mythological reference, and for the fact that they can do more if they have forelegs.

I always kinda assumed they would look like hippocampi anyway

No one in their right mind would think the original design of the Sea Ponies looked any good

He would have to be 'younger' though. Actually, the idea of Ponysidon being like the Prince Regeant in Blackadder 3 (who's played by House no less!) would be fucking hilarious!

Through the magic of wikipedia, I have come to a discovery!

Similar to how Unicorns and pegasi were originally separate myths, so too can be their analogues!

earth pony -> hippocamp

pegasus -> winged hippocamp (several myths, statues and the like depict them)

unicorn -> Kelpie - kelpie were creatures of gaelic legend, white horses with manes that were constantly wet. They held a variety of magics, the most noteable being shapeshifting.

...naw, maybe it would be better to just stick with hippocampi for the lot of them.

I'm torn between liking idea of Sea Ponies and hating it.

But I they must be in show I prefer hypocamp version not typical sea horse like version from previous gens. It look kind of cute and less ugly. And it's mitological creature, what is main reason why I'm totaly against them.

And I don't whant them to represent one Earth nation or country.

They are like the others. Strange, hideous, resisting, fighting. Only these were not like the others. They did not die.

Btw, this mentioning of Luna/Ponysidon;

I don't really like sea ponies. It's just too weird a concept to fit in. Maybe other mythological sea creatures could work though.

One subspiecies of Sea Ponies is fine. We don't need more of it. I prefer them as somekind of subspiecies of Pony.

I prefer Dragons having similar subspiesies like Ponies have.

Personally, I'd like to see them get as far as they can without resorting to shipping or romance.

It's my least favourite genre by far, and I don't want it soiling my ponies

Why isn't there any sea pony in Luna or Celestia then?
