I wasn't referring so much to Spike himself as to the attention he gets from the group of girls he associates with. The popularity of the show doesn't necessarily rely on it, so to speak, but I do think it was there to make the show even more fun for male viewers than it might have been otherwise. (Not sure what to guess for how female viewers tend to feel about it, though...)

oh, I know,

take Aquaman's three man powers (swimming fast, controling water and talking to fish), and devide it out among the three sea pony races.

So regulars get animal control, narwhals get water bending, and flippers get fast swimming.

How would the mane cast interact with them?

Scuba gear? Bubble Head Charm? Glass bottom boats? or would they go the Kingdom Hearts route of having Twilight actually turn them INTO sea ponies (or some other type of fish) for a short while?

If they were all turned into fish, what species would they be? For the sake of irony, Fluttershy should be an Anglerfish

Hey guys, I think I just noticed something odd... that you all probably noticed months ago, so excuse me for being slow:

In "Party of One, " when Pinkie Pie is holding the party with her imaginary friends... exactly what room is she holding the party in?

Item 1 - Its clearly established throughout the ep that Pinkie Pie's room is on the top floor... but when Rainbow Dash enters, she's clearly entering through a door that's on the ground floor (notice her wings are folded, you can hear her hooves tap, and the buildings in the background—obviously she's not flying).

Item 2 - When "Rocky" tells Pinkie that its a great party and she's outdone herself, you can see the corner of what looks like a stairway going up. Yet in at least two shots during the "party" we can also see the stairwell Pinkie came up at the beginning of the episode.

Item 3 - The room has a bed and a clothes closet, clearly indicating a bedroom... but in one shot we see it has a fireplace. Quite an unusual thing to have on the second storey, and in a bedroom (most houses put these in the dens).

So... what room is this? Pinkie's bedroom? Some weird sort of party room that has bedroom-esque furniture laid out in case one of the guests gets sick? Or some strange hyperdimensional room created by the sheer wierdness of Pinkie Pie's presence? You decide!

(Next week, we'll overanalyze Twilight's Library...)

Well I thought that Twilight would cast a 'bubble helmet' spell. But I guess any of those could work. Pinkie Pie would have to be a clown fish!

Also, maybe there should be only one race. But that one race can specialise in any one of the sea pony abilities (shoaling, current control, seabed farming, coral growing etc) if it's their calling, as shown by their CM.

Maybe Pinkie Pie co-opted the Cake's living/dining room while they were away.

Not that this is the place to shill, but in the fic I'm working on the main character is eventually going to go to a sea-pony kingdom. The sea ponies have a special magic that makes him a bubble to walk around it.

I think having them as seperate races would work better, since it maintains the precedent set by the ponies. What makes them so special that they deserve 3 races when all the others only get one?

Oh, maybe the 'Earth' varity could be the only ones immune to poisons, seeing as though they must herd jellyfish and the like. That's a pretty good advantage, right?

So bubble spells seem like the best option?

Hey, how would they keep things like books? Magic water resistance, or just make them out of water resistant material?

Are you kidding? The most common plant that gorws underwater is seaweed.

Seaweed is insanely salty.

Horses fuckin' love salt.

...but in this setting, isn't salt supposed to have a similar effect to alchohol? Huh...

At any rate, yeah, I think air bubble may be the best option - it's the one that they did in the old cartoon, at least. At least some kind of magic, maybe something that helps them breath underwater? Maybe the sea ponies are just a tribe of regular ponies that learned that spell, and they eventually got so used to it they evolved to live underwater?

Oh yeah - most sushi rolls tends to have seaweed warppings. It's not so bad - it's just kinda tough and tasteless.

I have to imagine the sea ponies would find other things to eat. Or the seaweed wouldn't affect them in the same way, since they've gotten used to it. Like how it's a lot harder for someone who scottish to get drunk than someone who's a native american, since the scotts have a much longer history of alchohol use. It used to make Sea ponies perpetually funny, as seen in the G1 incarnation, but by now their systems have adjusted and they act the same as any other pony, no silly musicals numbers or anything.

If they don't develop a high salt tolerance after literally living in salt water, there is no hope for them.
