I mentioned this before, but do you think the attention Spike (sometimes) gets from the girls is meant to appeal to male viewers? This scene in particular comes to mind; he is looked at adoringly by the social circle of girls he hangs out with, given gifts, and the way he follows up "you're embarrassing me" with "your turn" makes clear that he's embarrassed in a very fun way.

I think it's a way to appeal to male viewers at a bare minimum of expense to the appeal to female viewers.

I think Spike being a kind of Chick Magnet is to give the show some variety and yes, in a small way it's to appeal to male viewers, since it's one of the goals of this show. I'm sure the same thing would happen if they were all humans and Spike was a cute middle-school rascal in an after-school club full of high school girls.

Actually, Big Mac won't Pwn you at all. He'll just take everything you've got, and shrug it off. You'll wind up too exhausted to keep fighting, so he wins by default.

Is there a trope for that? Winning a fight by just getting hit until your opponent is tired?

I think I know how it could be possible for your regular, non Apple Clan or Pinkie Pie Earth Pony to out do a Unicorn.

Apart from their increased strength and endurance, maybe Earthies can wheather the wheather better? Like if an EP and a U were both caught out in the rain for hours, the EP would just be wet, but the U would be struck down hard with the cold?

And if the EP fell into some non magicial poisoned plants, it would be no big deal, but a Unicorn would be in hell. Plus, Unicorn's might be more likely to be allergic to stuff.

In short, a Unicorn is a city hatchback, an Earth Pony is a Land Rover.

Possibly. I always considered them hardier in general anyway. Clock a unicorn in the face and they bleed. Clock an EP in the face and you break your hand

Well Spike was an audience surrogate in Ticketmaster. But I don't think the scene in Owl's Well That Ends Well was particularly intended to appeal to male viewers. I think it was just supposed to show that Spike likes appreciation for his assistance.
