I had considered linking to that, but I think it leaves out some of the best comparison points (namely the degree to which the fandom determines the personalities of the minor characters).

Yeah, I honestly find that most of the moments people seem to point out as being really slashy actually aren't.

Yeah, a lot of it can be chalked up to shipping goggles. Then again, on the other hand, you have stuff like this, which I find it hard to believe that the writers weren't at least aware of the possible implications:

They all seem to be a way too big of a plot element for just one episode. To be honest, I actualyl think that their existence is a lot more shocking than the Changelings. Oh well.

Episode 12 now, and we got something about the Cutie Marks...

That was where the episode drew a lot of the humor from. Little things were blow to huge proportions, while the actually big things were quickly glossed over. It certainly worked for me.

I'm pretty sure while Lesson Zero was still new there was even a comic linked on EQD that took that one to the logical conclusion.

@D Roy: I kinda get the idea that the whole "Gates of Tartarus" thing being a one-off joke was kinda the point. The entire joke was that Twilight brushes it off like it's nothing. As for the secret section of the library, I really don't find that all too surprising. It kinda makes sense that they'd have uberspells somewhere.

I do understand that the existence of a time-travel spell raises a lot of implications, but I think that it's nerfed enough (limited range, can only do it once, results in a Stable Time Loop anyway) that it doesn't have as much impact as it could. I do think it would have been nice to play that up a bit, though.

@Con: Even in context, the first thing I thought when I watched that was "Oh wow, that's an... interesting way to phrase it, Twilight." But anyway, my point is that there are some scenes that come across as Ship Tease even without Shipping Goggles ("That's why you'd never qualify to be my pet" comes to mind). But yeah, I do agree that most shipping fuel is just people looking for excuses to pair the cast up.

@droy: I actually kind of liked that Tartarus was mentioned in an offhand way, but I wouldn't mind if they used that location for future stories.
