Also, I don't think Fluttershy was hugely OOC in that episode. She has a soft spot for animals, and as far as she knew, Philomena was a perfectly mundane bird. And as otherwise stated, phoenixes are extremely rare to the point that there was no reason for anyone to be familiar with Celestia's personal pet. I mean, even for Twilight, for her to be familiar would require her to either live in Celestia's personal quarters, or for Celestia to bring Philomena with her to class, neither of which seems likely to me.

Oh, where to begin. Let's see:

On royals:
- Cadence = unicorn/pegasus. Mortal. Nearly all pony monarchs have had a bias towards female offspring, as the aforementioned combination (seen as a distinguishing 'royal' mark) is a trait passed down by the mother.
- Celestia/Luna = unicorn/pegasus/earth-pone (alicorn). Demigoddesses; immortal*

As far as anyone knows; it's assumed their lifespans are theoretically indefinite. In any case, neither plans on going anywhere any time soon.

. Still trying to figure out their exact origins, but for now going with "found as children and raised by mortal king/queen."

I personally prefer to view Cadance as immortal as well, but very young compared to Celestia and Luna. You can already tell by comparing Celestia and Luna that they do grow. Luna is the younger sister and she was in stasis on the moon for a thousand years, so she's a lot less developed than her sister.

Of course there's no real evidence either way, so your theories are just as valid.

@Fallen: I'm just kinda chilling. Been really busy with work, but nothing really of note going on other still mucking around with that ATG. Speaking of which, I really need to get around to drawing today's prompt. I know what I plan on doing, but I haven't had time to actually draw it. I have been practicing though.

I'm still not even sure what I think about the Princesses. I usually just don't think about it too hard.
