And the defensive bonus.

Morning. What's going on?
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.
Derpy laughs at your logic.
Hopefully they use all the cool places next season. Fillydelphia and Manehatten could give a neat urban vibe that Canterlot's traditional look doesn't provide.
@Sky's pic: Must come from pine trees.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.
Well you shouldn't trust the map too much. The directions might be approximately correct but I doubt Canterlot is
really in the middle of Equestria. It feels like propaganda the way Romans wanted the Rome to be in the middle of their world maps.
I mean there's a reason why Mediterranean sea is called that.

What's the worst that could happen anyways?
I don't trust the map either, but it's the best we have so far.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
@Ginger: Pretty much that. Doesn't help that Canterlot helps tie all of the other cities together.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.
All railways do too.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
All two of their railroads.
I feel like I could touch the heavens, and sock angels.
Element of Indecision.
@Sky: The map has four railroads leading to Canterlot.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.
Oh, I didn't notice the Vanhoover and Baltimare lines.
I feel like I could touch the heavens, and sock angels.

They did a bit of high speed rail investment between seasons.

I can't imagine that steam trains are particularly fast, but OK.
@Ed: I've heard about your guy's bullet trains so I'm not surprised you would make a comment like that.
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.
Have to wonder though. Five of the biggest cities excluding Canterlot are built at the shore and they obviously have naval travel. Where do all those ships sail? Only griffins and dragons are mentioned on the map. I rather hope they will expand the world in the future seasons.

I think there are pony nations outside of Equestria.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
Who's to say they don't trade with the griffons? Maybe even the dragons, in certain cases.
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder
But I can't help but wonder...
