If anything, the edit itself would be more "ableist" than the initial portrayal. I mean, imagine if someone got offended over the portrayal of a black person, and the network responded by digitally altering the footage to make the character white. It kinda raises more problems than it solves, you know?

Well it depends on depictions. remember how the black people were draw in Piece One?

Yeah, blackface is unfortunately still a thing in Japan. They haven't exactly had several centuries of black people as a huge part of their local culture like we have (and even then, it took us a long-ass time to figure out that wasn't cool).

I dunno, I just feel like replacing an unflattering portrayal with a retroactive refusal to acknowledge the existence of an entire subset of people the moment it looks "touchy" is not an improvement. At least the former leads to enough attention that people start talking and figuring out what's not okay — the latter stagnates it and keeps it "touchy" forever, perpetuating the very same racial/able/whatever the fuck issues are being brought up in the first place.

But, it is not a big enough deal to lose sleep over, so I'm just going to avoid the drama as best I can.

EDIT: And sign the "Save Derpy" petition. And help people acquire the original version of the episode through Completely Legal Means that in no way involve the embryonic form of plants or large quantities of fast-moving water.

Eh, I don't really like Derpy's new voice. It just doesn't fit her like her orignal voice did. But I'm not going to cry Ruined forever or anything like that, even though I still prefer the orignal voice.

I'm ambivalent on the voice and the name, although I am kinda disappointed that they underped her eyes. I mean, that was her defining characteristic.

While I'm not sure about the controversy as a whole (I've seen a ridiculous shitstorm on Tumblr), the original scene did feel a little...awkward.

I like the new voice personally. As much as it sucks that they were forced to change it, I wasn't really comfortable with how the how she sounded before. She came she came across as actually retarded rather cartoony dumb.

Late last night itunes put up an edited version of Last Roundup that changed her voice, underped her eyes, and removed mention of her name.

There's still no actual news on whether it was Hasbro or iTunes, guys. It's only the iTunes version that was changed, after all - the episode is being released unaltered on the DVD's. Plus, if you listen carefully, that doesn't sound like Ashleigh Ball saying Dash's altered line at the beginning there.
