It's the same reason why Robot Unicorn Attack is so popular.

Because people have no self control and will go after cute things as long as their is no sexual context behind it, which is what My Little Pony is.

Anyway, don't bother asking /b/. There's usually a pony thread on /co/.

Better yet, I'll give my take on it. People like variety and quality in art. People are willing to appreciate cutesy shit, but nine times out of ten the people who make cutesy shit don't bother to make it any good. My Little Pony: Fi M is a very rare example of a girly show that has some care put into it. Naturally, it gets more attention and sticks in your head more than a show of comparable quality.

Also, there's an irony in enjoying this kind of thing as an adult man that I find very amusing. I have a feeling that this sort of thing is behind some of it.

I also really like the art direction of this show, which only really highlights how unlikeable the "classic" pony character designs were. And I do like how this show isn't really centered around the ponies doing "typically girly" things, which is a really obvious pitfall for shows like this.

I really like how they handled the main character. It's not often you get the smart/sane/socially awkward one in a leading role.

I wouldn't really call Twilight Sparkle a "main character" even though she is a signifigant focus in this show, but it's a good vehicle to carry across the central moral of the show about making friends.

Also god damn it Tara Strong why are you in every goddamn cartoon these days.

Tara Strong is able to play a lot of voices, and is one of the only Voice actors we have for cutesy voices that can actually go on for hours with herself without busting her voice. Rivalling her is Cree Summer, but she has too much jive for some roles.

True, but to me she's kinda becoming the female Jim Cummings in that for all her variety she still has that very characteristic voice that leads to the usual Hey, It's That Voice! moment in anything she's in.
