@Applelight: Unless there is more to being an Earth Pony then has been explicitly said, I doubt it unless you happen to love gardening.

Man, this discussion just isn't the same without Ginger around.

Unicorn Gardener is sad at their plants weithering away all the time?

...nah, that's stupid.

Total Ginger question but...would any non Earths be jealous of an Earth?

Maybe someone who realizes that the only reason they can all live is because the Earth Ponies can grow food.

Yeah, I'm sure there are advantages to being an EP, they're just more subtle. They're probably stronger, and my personal headcanon is that they're above-average cooks because of the whole "connection to the earth" thing. I mean, the Cakes are E Ps, Pinkie is an EP, AJ is an EP, and Pony Joe is an EP. Pretty much every cook we've seen so far has been an earth pony.

Like when the bridge fell in the 2nd episode and everyone was freaking out, and she just fluttered her wings and was all like "don't worry your poor dirty hooves, mud ponies, I got this."

I didn't interpert it as bragging, just pointing something out.

Yeah, Joe was definitely a Unicorn. Not to mention that Gustave and Mulia were both extremely skilled chefs as well.

@JT: Yeah, and despite AJ just being a normal farmer who also does rodeos, she's apparently a good enough cook to cater for a royal wedding, complete with ice sculptures and extremely complex cakes and such.

I can't remember for sure but I thought he was an EP.

@Perpetual: Yeah, but they aren't even ponies so they don't really factor into it. Besides, just because other races can be good cooks doesn't mean that EP's aren't on the whole above average.

And yet Pinkie Pie is the one who works in a bakery. tongue

AJ's talent for cooking is easy to understand considering her Grandmother has a pie for a cutie mark.

@Blue Don't forget that the Apple Family was also catering the Summer Sun Celebration in Episode 1, which was very much a royal event that year, with Celestia being the guest of honor, so there was certainly precedent for it.

@JT It's just that I can't make the connection between cooking and the Earth in my mind, so I'm having trouble seeing the logic.

Besides, Celestia might have had a hoof in the invitation.

And yet Pinkie Pie is the one who works in a bakery.

Pinkie always seemed like just a standard part-time employee to me, nothing special.

Well, a part-time employee given room and board.

Food is made from ingredients drawn from the Earth?

Oh wait, that's right! The Apples have insta-fermenting cider! That's got to be magically assisted.

Also Pinkie isn't good enough to bake by herself. She has no sense of taste, remember?

Heh, that debate.

Of course, it doesn't help that they put Berry Punch right at the start of Flim and Flam's song. tongue

I'm more impressed by the fact that they grew an apple orchard from nothing in under a year in the middle of the desert.
