@ Lurker: Absolutely true.
Are guns actually all that useful for self defense? For one thing you need to actually have it on you when you get attacked, and wouldn't pulling a gun on an attacker make them more likely to panic and stab/shoot you as opposed to just taking your wallet and leaving?
Typically, once someone brings out a gun, the other party backs down. It's such an imbalance of power that you most often don't even need to use it. 'course, that doesn't nullify the number one rule of gun safety, "never point the gun at something you're not willing to shoot."
Crowfall: I'm thinking more in case of home invasion where I might be forced to make a stand. Otherwise I'd probably give in or try to flee if possible.
I learned how to load a shotgun from Team Fortress 2.

So would the trigger need be enormous for them to pull it?

Everything's been done. Everything has a meaning. However your life at best is to serve as a building block for others.
I've never even seen TF in action, let alone play it.

Hey Applelight!
Journalism is just a gun. It's only got one bullet in it, but if you aim right, that's all you need.
I had a sandwich for dinner, and now my mouth is all cut up. Bread is dangerous...
FIM is what convinced me that fanfiction counts as legitimate literature, but the only fanfic outside of FIM that I've heard people talk a lot about is Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, and I really didn't like that when I tried reading it.
Have you tried reading Luminosity? It isn't preachy like
HP Mo R. Luminosity is basically what the Twilight series would be if the characters weren't idiots.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
