@Crowfall: According to my brother (who loves to exposit at great length on such topics) finding good weapons is easy as long as you know the right manufacturers. There are a lot of shoddy knockoffs out there, you gotta know who makes the good ones.

Said sword was designed as a simple, nonfancy, functional tool, and is priced accordingly.

I don't have a way to take pictures right now, y'all, but this is the sword I'm talking about:

There's a video demonstration on there too.

Looks like the price has gone up since he bought it for me.

[up]You have your melee weapon, now primary and secondary left.

Yeah, that company is a decent manufacturer, right? I'm not exactly up on my weapons. Closest thing I have to one is a club I made out of a pool cue.

Yep. They made my knife too (which was also given to me by my bro) and I love it.

Ooh, pretty. Well, not the ornate kind of pretty, but pretty.

Yeah, those are definitely cool. Only thing is that I have zero use for one where I live. When I get my own apartment I might pick one up with the excuse of self defense or something.

I wonder how that sword would fare in a medieval warfare setting.

I've no need of a sword where I live.

I do have a solid ironwood cane, though.

Journalism is just a gun. It's only got one bullet in it, but if you aim right, that's all you need.

[up][up]Depends on what sort of armor it was up against. Plus, it's pretty short, which would be a disadvantage. I'd say pair it with a shield, except it's a two handed weapon. It's poorly balanced one handed. So the answer is probably "not very well.'' It cuts tree branches very well though.

[up]Me neither, it was a gift.

Thought you were never supposed to gift knives or swords. Something about the potential that they'd sever the friendship. Superstitious twaddle, I'm sure but still...

How do you know that you'd be good at using a sword without owning one? I think I'd be kinda decent.

A good rule of thumb is: If you've never used a sword, you're probably pretty shit at it.

I speak from experience.

I dunno, but I've practiced with my brother's katana a bit (which is an AWESOME sword btw) and I found that by mimicking the actual sword moves I'd seen professionals do it worked much, much better.

I've got no melee training myself, but gimme a quick refresher course and I can handle a gun just fine.

I've fired an old surplus Soviet rifle and a modern day shotgun.

I didn't enjoy the experiences.

I can shoot a small-caliber rifle well enough, but that's about it.

I fired a rifle a couple times. I also own a BB-Gun.

Yeah, only gun I've ever fired was my dad's low caliber rifle. I barely even remember it.

I've shot a pistol, a revolver, and a shotgun for a final exam (college PE, marksmanship). Did pretty well, though a bit less so with the shotgun. Not my favorite kind of firearm.

Though I've always wanted to fire a bolt-action rifle. And an actual rifle, not the air rifles we used for training.

I fired hunting rifle (or shotgun, I'm not sure how to translate that) few times.
