Those don't count as adults. They behave and look like Dawson Casting teenagers from TV and movies. Actual teenagers behave nothing like that BTW.

Back to the perennial debate!

Twilight's a grad student, Pinkie works full-time (or what passes for full-time for Pinkie) at Sugarcube Corner, and Rarity owns the Carousel Boutique (and given that Sweetie Belle's nowhere to be seen during "Suited for Success", among other things, it seems likely that she does not live with Rarity - ergo, Rarity doesn't live with her parents, it's not just that we don't see them.) Even Dash is employed by the Weather Service.

I'd place them all around twenty or so.

I imagine they're in their early twenties 20-25

You can still be a student at that age (if you're at university level, which I'm sure Twilight is)

@Pacific: Of course most actual people are less interesting than giggling magic ponies, duh.

Well, yes, obviously. But you'll agree with me a twentysome adult (even with kids) has a very different life from a fiftysome one (even with kids), yes?

Fluttershy doesn't seem to have a job, per se, but she seems to spend much of her time looking after the animals aound her house. Not sure where she gets an income, but...

And I'm not sure if Twilight's a grad student (and her stay in Ponyville is classified by her college as "studying abroad"), or if she got her degree some time ago and is now just working as a scholar.

I guess that's true.

Well, they had never said the casts age out loud, but they still have this Vague Age thing on them, they seem kind of a mix of adult and child traits. Pretty much they're all Adult Childs.

And Fluttershy is obviously the vetenarian and general wild life keeper/observer.

So, park ranger?

I honestly think that (other than Pinkie) they act like (semi)responsible adults

The mane cast are probably considered adults, but yeah a show with say, Mr. and Mrs. Cake as the main characters would be totally different. And honestly, a sitcom about them and how they deal with Pinkie and her shenanigans would be awesome.

Since Fluttershy keeps chickens, she might be more or less self-sufficient. Then again, I'm not sure how a horse would live off chickens anyway.

Mmm...chicken...

They do eat eggs, though. Or at least things made with them.

[up]Because ponies in show eat only food what RL horses eat.
They are like the others. Strange, hideous, resisting, fighting. Only these were not like the others. They did not die.

Ponies in Equestria eat flowers, I don't think Fluttershy is any trouble as long as she keeps a good garden

Actually horses might eat anything if they have a good nutritionist.

However, get their diet wrong and they die. Horribly so.

[up]There was a hominid in the evolution chain who did that. Not too bright, and lantenr-jawed.

Just what I was going to say. Cakes require eggs, after all.

And yeah, I forgot that Fluttershy can just grow her own grass and flowers. But what about when she wants to buy non-essentials?

I mean, that house had to come from somewhere, for one thing.

I don't think finding food is a problem in Equestria. It just doesn't strike me as a thing that would happen, especially given Celestia's evident concern for her subjects. Anyway, Ponyville doesn't lack for food that isn't meat-based, so I don't think there's any reason to worry about how Fluttershy keeps herself fed. If anything, she probably provides the chickens with a place to live so she can harvest eggs every now and then - no meat involved.

I suppose she can sell eggs to buy other things, too.

Do you think Fluttershy sells the eggs? or any of the produce that comes from her animals?

I can imagine her selling eggs to sugarcube corner

"what?": You can make herbivores eat meat. It's the whole reason the mad cow disease happened in the first place. And there was an ancestor of Man who had flowers as its main diet. It was somewhere between Australopithecus and Homo Erectus, but I don't remember where exactly, I read that on a paper ten years ago.

Worst case, there's grass growing all over, so she could just graze if cooked food becomes tough to afford.

This discussion reminds me of a throwaway joke in some fanfic that Pinkie mistook Daisy's grown flowers for snacks. Hahaha, when ponies can eat flowers, it isn't easy to tell when edible flowers are being grown as decorations or as snacks [lol]
