Pinkie doesn't seem very "skilled" to me. Her primary asset has always been comic relief.

[up][up]Not all the time. She can add some comic relief without helping or hindering the others. In Dragonshy she had her Hop Step and a Jump song that almost helped, and at the end she tried doing ... uh, something, to deal with the dragon, but that went nowhere.

She basically only has a meta purpose to provide humor for the viewer. Otherwise she's basically pointless and sadly could be removed from the group and nothing structurally from the team would be lost. Though if I understand correctly, more would more likely see the same with Applejack only Applejack doesn't make them laugh.

[up]Absolutely nowhere. Funny, but utterly pointless, that was the specific example I was thinking of when I said "Alternate solution when all else fails" before as her in story purpose.

They all add something to the team's dynamic, even if some of them aren't very useful in a practical situation

AJ is my fav cuz she's so level-headed and Team Mom like. I can relate to someone like that

AJ has points for being a pony from very early on. Although I found the original series really boring and noisy. She's much more badass in this one. There should be an episode where she gets to shine, though.

I think its unfair to say you could lose any of them without damaging the team. This is a group of friends first and foremost, not a superhero team. Yeah they get dragged into crazy crap every now and then, but most of the time they're just hanging out, and I bet they would all miss Pinkie's parties if she were to leave.

[up][up] True, I'd be sad if Pinkie left, I just wish they could alter her slightly, so she's slightly less annoying

It's like we were saying earlier, just have Pinkie get punched in the face every episode!

I love how it's impossible to slap anyone in Equestria thanks to hooves. You NEED to punch them in the face [lol]

Having Pinkie put into a serious situation might be good. Maybe with some younger characters, so she has to try to stay calm and make the decisions.

I would like that.

Applejack appeals to me, though she is not one of my favorites.

[up][up]Pinkie being forced to look after the Cutie Mark Crusaders for an episode and needing to be the mature one for once would probably be really good for her.

Just responding to a comment from back on page 917:
In fact, we know more about her than we do about Twilight's mom, who by all means should be much more important in the show. What do we know about her?...She looks like G1 Twilight.

This is kinda beside the point, but... why do people keep saying this?

Here's Twi's mom:

Now here's G1 Twilight as drawn by Lauren Faust:

They're similar in a few respects, but they really don't look that much alike.

OK, so she has a white coat and a few less stars on her Mark. What's so different about that?

They have really similar cutie marks, and the mane style and color scheme is very similar. You could play the coat color difference as Twilight's mom going gray as she got older.

And I agree that an episode where Pinkie has to be the mature one would be awesome. Having her get an Aesop like "fun is great, but it's not appropriate in every situation" would be awesome.

They've got about as much in common as any two background ponies do, is what I'm saying. Just from a first glance there's enough different to say "these are not the same pony"

Also, there's nothing in the show to evidence that pony fur goes gray as it ages. In fact Granny Smith has green fur.

This was posted on Equestria Daily. I don't know if its been posted here, but this thread moves too fast for me to want to check.

For some reason, this makes me want to see an Applejack/James Bond fic...
