Went away for a while.

When in doubt about gender, I try to avoid pronouns.

@Sky What do you mean by "mix and match language?"

Also, should "couple" be used to mean two of something or a small group of something?

[up] Small group. When you say "a couple of minutes" you clearly mean more than two minutes, don't you?

@crow For example, the word for driver's license is just "driver" and "license" with some extra letters.

Also, small group.

But you're wrong. They isn't ambiguous or confusing at all and it doesn't result in clumsy bestial sentences like he or she does.

Couple should always mean two. If you mean a small group just say a few.

I can see where this is going, so we should probably stop now.

- Person 1: I'm not equivocating!

- Person 2: Oh yes you are!

Are you a bad enough dude to argue with waz? (your chances are better than you think, anyone can win if they use enough fallacies)

@Sky If you mean it loves compound words, I'll agree with you on that.tongue

Or for a more technically accurate term than what I just used, there's this.

I am a proponent of the use of They, if only because using a / in place of or is totally not proper english.

really, he/she works fine on paper/typing, but it's awkward as fuck when speaking.

@Rose: But the singular they is confusing. They is the third person plural pronoun, which is how it is used at least 80% of the time, so using it singularly forces the listener to have to think about what you mean rather than getting it right away, and it's confused even more by what verb form you should use. I mean, should you go with they are, despite the fact that you're referring to one person, or they is, which just sounds weird.

Also, while he or she is kind of clunky, dropping the or, and having an implied / in your speech makes it less clunky. I mean, he/she just rolls off of my tongue, personally, and it's easy to write. Not only that, but it's perfectly clear as to what you mean, and the verb form that goes with it is unconfusing.

This is why Lojban is superior. You decide exactly how much information you want to supply with each sentance. Pity that it's so difficult to learn.

I dunno about that. Most times I've seen "they" used as a singular, the context was pretty darn clear. Otherwise, the writer isn't doing their job right.

Say that I say beat to someone. Should I be concerned that they cannot grasp from the context whether I mean a rhythm or an assault? No because proper context makes it easy. Words do not exist in a vacuum.

You can't pronounce a slash. And saying he slash she is even worse. So you're either saying heshe, he slash she or he or she. All terrible.

You know what, I am reminded of browser wars and console wars. They always end with nobody convincing anyone of anything.

Didn't you guys read my post at all? It's just endless equivocation. None of you can argue in a logical manner because you all have different definitions for "ambiguous" or "sounds correct".

@ Ginger: Only that the thread is full of fools apart from the ones that agree with me.

By the way how many Autobots did you say Starscream beat at once in Animated?
