Which I don't like for the same reason I don't really like c, it's redundant. We can use he/she for a gender we don't know, and it for someone who is gender neutral.

I'm also annoyed because my brother is abusing my car too. I put him on my insurance as an act of kindness because he can't afford his own car, and he's never ever even had the decency to put a drop of petrol in it, or empty the rubbish he leaves in it. And frequently, when I ask for him to have it back by a certain time because I need it, he tells me he can't make it back by then because his friends need rides.....but only after he's left the house with it and I am unable to do anything about it.

Don't bother being kind folks. It just leaves you open to abuse.

And the singular they is stupid and confusing because they has a clear purpose, and he/she works better, anyway.

Even if it does, I'll still be as kind as I can.

I mean, so far as I know you simply can't DO this with other languages. Just sit around and argue about which word is best to desicribe an obscure situation, and keep it going because each interpretation is actually valid?

@Kegi: That's the point though of language though. If everyone understands the message that the person speaking is trying to say, then that is the "correct" way of doing it.

That's what annoys me about him/her usage. It's trying to solve some ambiguity that doesn't exist...which makes me wonder if the person who started that him/her usage is naive, or has some other motive.

This is the main thing that kegi is completely right about. You can complain about the "correct" way to use words, but every single example you've all given in this they-he/she-s/he argument thing is valid. If you say any of them to someone, they'll know what you're saying.

@Rose: But the singular they isn't logical. It's confusing, and overly ambiguous. The only reason it's used is because it's traditionally used. He/she isn't very clunky, just two more letters and an extra syllable, he/she is very clear, and he/she covers the most common bases.
