The whole cycle of "one thing gets popular, everyone copies said thing while missing what made it good in the first place" is pretty much a constant thing. It's not gonna stop happening, but at the same time there will always be people who actually come up with new, unique, well done stuff in the interim. It's really just another way of saying Sturgeon's Law.

I've decided I like this song now.

@ Bluespade You could ask in CRISIS tread about that. I don't see any problem if you want help not just bash stuff.

BTW Anyone want play TF 2? If not I try to play that MLP Heroes server again and try to hunt down all those creepy pony abonimations.
Because he know I'm going to go out in this plane and I'm going to remove one of His creations from His universe.

Thing was posted by Amid, who runs the blog and has mocked bronies in the past. He has a bit of a reputation for being a whiny bitch who fellates John K.

[up][up]And IIIIIIIII'm the only one who's seen the play that song is originally from.

@ Blue Spade: Yeah, but what I'm scared of is the brand of crap we'll get out of MLP clones. It's going to be excruciating. G3 MLP bad.

@Death Cloud: Well I wasn't really specifically focused on CRISIS in particular, I just picked it because it seems to be currently held as one of the standards of best fanfic writing. My intention was to help fanfic writers by showing them the mistakes that are accepted by fanfic readers, but would probably keep them from getting published (there are exceptions of course, lots of poorly written stuff does still get published). Other possibilities would be Fallout Equestria and Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality since I know those are considered very well written.

Of course, I haven't read any of HPATMOR so for all I know it could be well written, I'd have to look into it.

[up] There's already stuff out like that right now though, just don't watch it.

Does it count if I want to see it?

It is? Well, I think it's good, but I haven't seen much talk about it outside of the threads here, really.

Really? I never would have imagined that there's bad stuff out there right now. And not watching it? HOLY SHIT! THAT'S LIKE, THE BEST IDEA I'VE EVER HEARD! You've changed my life! I never realized before that I didn't have to watch bad shows! This changes everything! You have no idea how much time this is going to save me over the next few years!

I'm going to refrain from making any cracks about Fallout Equestria.

And yah, you can get a dvd of Sunday in the Park with George, which I completely recommend.

Sigh, that's two days in a row I managed to piss someone off entirely without meaning to... maybe I should stay away from people for awhile.

Well, technically he is joking, if you count sarcasm as a kind of joke.

one, do I need to post our song again?

two, will people let up on the fanfics having tiny little errors, yes we know they are not on par with something that's been through a publisher and editor, but who cares, the fanfic writers aren't trying to make money, it costs you nothing to read it, they are doing it for FUN, and so there readers can enjoy the story, stop trying to criticise them for not being the same quality as a novel that has gone though several rewrites, at least one of not more editors, etc... can the writers always improve, yes. But trying to point out these little things like they are glaring flaws gets old.

end of the day only ONE thing matter did you enjoy the STORY, the story, not the little tiny details, but overall was. it. fun. to. read.

sorry, not really just dericted at anyone in particular just something that's been annoying me lately.

also, three, now BOTH Shepards are confirmed bronies, femshep gave Tara and her local brony meetup group a shoutout

Well, Jennifer Hale is a pretty big-name VA. Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic, Planescape Torment...

I need to continue that game.

But trying to point out these little things like they are glaring flaws gets old.

I'm making the assumption that fanfic writers (at least, fanfic writers that have long, epic stories with thousands of readers) probably want to improve, even if they have no intention of ever publishing anything. Small mistakes are not a big deal and don't detract much from the enjoyment of reading... but they are also very easy to fix once the writer knows what to look for and how to fix them. Seeing mistakes briefly jars the reader out of their engagement, so eliminating all the little mistakes makes for an uninterrupted, smoother read. It's not necessary but it does improve quality.

Even though I don't care for fanfiction myself, I do very much respect those writers who've managed to write stories that can hold so many people's attention. But I fail to see how wanting to help someone improve at their talent can possibly be offensive.

Screw it, I'm just gonna go write my own book.
