Even if Discord could create an army, he wouldn't. That wouldn't be any fun. No, Discord would deal with an army by forcing them to cross increasingly chaotic terrain, and steadily introducing chaos into the ranks of said army until it more or less disbands naturally.

@Applelight: That's actually a funny theory for MMDW. I actually like the thought of Trixie putting on loads of different disguises and alter egos in hopes making herself look awesome and cool to the other ponies.

"Now let's find out who the monster really is...*gasp* Trixie........again.

Discord was a cool, but I admit I found his defeat kind of anti climatic, he just stood there and took the damn thing expecting it to fail like before, not the most savvy move. He admitedly didn't seem quite as Stupid Evil as Chrysalis though.

I'd love to see the show handle the "Standard Evil Overlord with a horde of Monsters" plot. Just because it would be amusing to see ponies vs. an army of orcs or something.

They occupied Canterlot...for a day.

I'm talking about a nation wide invasion...by a scarlily competent and maybe super advanced enemy force.

Maybe even from another dimension.

Discord's army would consist of purple hippos made out of custard with rifles that shoot angry cats and bazookas that fire poisonous cobras.

They occupied the capital and incapacitated one of the most powerful ponies in Equestria and the majority of their forces.

I want to see a villain with developed cohorts or minions, likely bumbling ones with an F in Evil. It would be interesting to have a developed villainous group interact (Diamond Dogs came a bit close).

@Ginger: I'd like to see more of an extended campaign thing. Like a horde of enemies is slowly marching towards Ponyville. The ponies do stuff to slow them down like throw weather at them, change it to night whenever they try to march, create illusions to throw them off track, etc, while they prepare some kind of defense.

@Blue That doesn't sound like my kind of thing. Sounds like an hour of the ponies playing the villains for chumps

@Blue: That sounds both cool and completely beyond what the show would ever do. There's probably some fanfic along those lines though.

Nightmare was resentment...discord was chaos...chrysalis was stealing love...

What else could there be?

Except that all these things would only be stalling at best, meaning that whoever the enemy is is resilient enough to shrug off the forces of nature itself to march on equestria.

Each villain was, ultimately, defeated by the opposite of the aspect they portray(Discord defeated by harmony, NM by fogiveness, Chrys by love), and the only way to defeat an army is to have one of your own... which means togetherness. Maybe the villain could be the aspect of lonliness - he created all these shadows because he had no one, and was left alone, and he's trying to conquer the land so they ponies will have to be with him?

I'm interesting in the show having some sort of dynamic where you can feel for both sides really. Most villains in the show are fun but kind of cardboard and over the top nasty. Discord was one of the nearest to having a lot of charisma and personality that you could almost like him.

That's why I like bumbling villains in doses, since they usually have lots of pathos and personality. So long as they don't go overboard and make them more sympathetic than the heroes like some shows do.

It would probably work to have some sort of recurring enemy appear every now and then in the show so as to gain a developed dynamic and chemistry.
