Say, wasn't it mentioned somewhere that this was supposed to close the first season instead of start the second one? Because upon reflection, this episode makes much more sense as a finale.

Also, the animation's really shot up in quality this episode.

Even if that's the case, they'll still get used to writing in this style after a while.

At this rate, I expect they'll get tolerably good by about... maybe season five, at the earliest.

But apart, all we are is just a pile of mush and some crumbly dry mess...

I still don't see exactly what's wrong with the writing. Everything made sense to me. The problems seemed to stem more from a lack of time to show it than anything else.

The other thing, though, is that... oh right. They fully desaturated just before Spike saw them (and I don't think RD ever did.)

@gingerninja 666, I actually think the same way about adventure plots to. They are a nice diversion that can keep the show from becoming to "sitcomy", in my opinion.

However I just think that the way the show is set up now (episodic, low continuity, primarily comedic) does not lend itself well to a good adventure plot(which is a shame in my opinion).

I don't understand why people didn't like this episode... It didn't even feel that rushed to me. And if Discord had done the smart thing and just ran, the entire rest of the series would be the mane cast chasing him across Equestria, having wacky adventurers repairing the damage he was doing!

I just don't want the adventuring to go away, because it offers a nice alternative to the slice of life.

^^^That's a fair point. I haven't seen the new episode yet, but honestly, we can't realistically hold the show to deep and involved storylines, even with someone as potentially dark as Discord involved. Its strength is really in Slice of Life, I'd say.

There's really no way to do a proper fight scene without breaking Hesbro's censorship.

(Isn't it amusing? I started writing "Discord" instead of "Hasbro" in that sentence. HASBRO IS EVIL, LOL.)
