@Kyler: More like Jack-of-All-Stats. Unicorn can beat you at rang? Use superior agility to get in close. Pegasi is too good for you one-on-one? Use tactics to gain the upper hoof. They can't beat anypony in any one stat(Except strength), but their stats in general are high enough to make them dangerous when they use all their tricks.
That, and EP's seem to become absurdly talented in an area when they work hard enough. Don't tell me AB couldn't weaponize her mad Hula-Hooping skills.

So let's see here, we're talking about two diffrent things here. One:Pony warefare, and two:Harry potter. Am I correct?

I don't know how much this applies to the current discussion, but I've noticed in Western RP Gs like Elder Scrolls and Diablo, non-magical characters like Fighters are often NOT at a disadvantage, because they always get like scrolls or staves or rings or something that have magical properties or allow them to cast spells without needing any magical training.
Besides, Pinkie once killed Rainbow Dash.

@Swa That's a different person singing it.
This version is sung by Jessa! (Yeah yeah, I won't make the joke get too old. Jessa IS just me pitched up. P: ) Hey, don't ninja me while I'm copying descriptions.
Why do you think that version's better?
Male voice singing the song sounds weird. The Jessa version sounds closer to female, but is also slightly inhuman in nature because of the pitch shift and fits a changeling to me.

Unicorn uses a little TK and BLAM! Scrambled pony brains!
Right?

I can imagine it now: earth pony paratroopers. Pegasi camp is like "WTF? Since when did earth ponies learn to fly?!"

You'd think that unicorns might also have the potential to be the best swordfighters, given how dextrous and versatile they can be with their TK.
A blade could be flying at their enemy from loads of different directions

Wait, what?
Sky Strike suggested that Rarity was a bully as a filly, and Applelight said it'd make a good episode idea.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.
#217362kegisakThu, 7th Jun '12 5:11:51 PM
@Chad: It depends on just how versatile their TK is. If they can't catch a moving target, then it's effectively useless. Plus there's the amount of strength involved - if they aren't a strong enough telekinetic to lift a pony, then it's useless again. Your average unicorn likely only has the benefit of dexterity. Even a more skilled unciorn mage isn't going to use TK, since it may be too precise. They'd go for a more AOE magic, maybe ever psychological on their enemy. Like making a huge fucking dragon out of water to crush them.
By the by, writing a skilled unicorn mage fighting is like, the best fucking thing ever.

Pegasi flying is actually the most broken thing about combat if you think about it from a tactical perspective. They are capable of hovering, lifting objects equal to their weight and can travel at speeds near mach one. And they have next to no takeoff requirements they can literally jump in the air and fly.
In tactical terms that is massive broken ability.

I hated how harry potter equated Muggles as weak and useless DESPITE modern technology. I know Technology goes all wonky near areas of high wizard concentrations but is a wizard really immune to bullets?

Is there a trope for when the bad guy in most fantasy works is some kind of mage, and the hero is most often some kind of fighter.
@Kegi A skilled unicorn mage BAD GUY would be even more awesome

Hey, I've finally caught up. Anyway Kegisak, it sounds like the movie departs rather dramatically. Does it even have the whole thing about the people from NIMPH coming and the rats having to destroy their home?
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

I can picture a squadron of pegasi using their "drag stuff through the air" ability to go on a bombing run, but so far, only Rainbow Dash has even attempted to reach Mach 1 (at least among the present-day ponies).

Pegasi may be OP, but all ponies are OP.

@ Chadaman
That's an awesome idea!
And RD has shown that a flying pegasi can barrel clean through a wooden wall, so...they are pretty dangerous fighters.
@ginger: True enough, true enough.
you know what though? Writing for Iron was awesome for that reason. He was an EP, the formost warrior in Equestria at the time. In the final battle I got to write him doing all sort of crazy acrobatics, and causing massive collateral damage with is attacks. I wanted to take it up another notch in the sequel - there'd be a special kind of stone that amps up EP power(technically it's a magical boost in general, but only EP's can actually use it without suffering burnout), so they could do things like dodging a rain of arrows, and swimming through sand. The combat applications of ponies are pretty awesome, all in all.
