It just fits her character to be constantly contradictory. I'd be really dissapointed if that was her actual origin story

Yes, her Mark probably did form as an effect of the Sonic Rainboom.

^^But why, though? It's rare that I'm in agreement with Death, I'll admit, but I'm with him here - why does anyone think that Pinkie's making up her story? Metafictionally, that makes hers the only story in the episode that's a lie; in-universe, there's no reason for her to have made anything up, and no proof aside from "and that's how Equestria was made", which is just Pinkie being Pinkie. Pinkie's not stupid, nor is she malicious. She gains nothing from lying to the Crusaders about her cutie mark, so why wouldn't she tell the truth?

We're not sticking with any fanon. It's all speculative at this point and may not be canon- that's why it's called fanon! We're merely proposing theories that make sense to each of us.

tbph, I'm 90% sure that she isn't lying. It's just that her story feels... wrong. The others make sense. They have lead ins, they're easy to predict based on what we know of the mane cast. Hers comes completely out of nowhere, and it's so ludicrously over the top that it feels kind of contrived.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that I hope it's a lie (more than I actually think it's a lie), because it felt like the most inferior of the flashbacks by a wide margain. I figure my brain is desperately trying to throw it into discontinuity.

^At its heart, it's no less contrived or contrary to what we currently know about Pinkie than Applejack's was. In both, the sight of the rainbow from the Sonic Rainboom directly convinces the girls to become more like we know them. I can see where you're coming from, but since I'm not entirely sure what part of her origin is rubbing you the wrong way, I can't really say much else.

I can't see how it hurt story.

My guess is that the basis of Pinkie's story (living a boring life on a farm) is true, but she exaggerated all the elements (i.e. rock farm rather than a regular farm). So it's true in one sense, but it's the details that are unreliable.

She could exaggerated but flashback could not lie to us.

Rocks have a lot of uses.

Once again I have an early morning job on Saturday that makes it so I can get breakfast, watch the episode and then go to do that. I'm okay with this.

@Red It's the "her living on a rock farm" part. I can understand everything the Rainboom did to them, since that was the point of the story.

• Fluttershy and RD were in Flight school up in Cloudsdale. Not too big of a stretch, considering their both Pegasi, and we know that RD hails from there.
• AJ went to Manehatten. It starts off with her at home, and it clearly establishes why AJ wanted to go there and how it was possible. (family connections)
• Rarity was at school in what appeared to be Ponyville. Again, believable.
• Twilight was in Canterlot. It was established that she originally came from there, and the story explains in detail how she became Celestia's pupil.

Pinkie's origin comes out of nowhere. The Rock farm had never appeared before, it wasn't set up in any way other than "I used to live there", and it's so over the top and stereotypically boring that it actually shattered my suspension of disbelief.

Ever hear of the Rashomon Effect? Stories parody and utilize this framework where several characters all try to tell what happened during a given situation in the past, and they are all completely different and contradict one another. Flashbacks can lie, because they're all formulated out of someone's memory, and being (usually) human, the character can make up false stories just as much as anything else.

Some people 8 pages ago said that the "make sure it fits within our budget" part of Art of the Dress is out of place, since she was making them all dresses for free. Well, watching Suited for Success again, I don't see any part where she says that. If fact, she says that it will be a big boost for her business (though this could be interpreted as being about the publicity from the fashion show).
