I'd definitely be a unicorn. I'm nowhere physically fit enough to be an earth pony or pegasus.

@Gingerbread: Take a memorable line from Dan Backslide in The Dover Boys of Pimento University, mix with Twilight pouring herself a goblet of hot sauce, and there we go.

If I were to be a pony, my high DEX and INT would make me a Unicorn, then I'll cheat and make myself some mechanical (clockwork?) wings. my fitness is terrible too.

Unicorn, definitely Unicorn.

I'm sorry, I can't get over the fact I just attempted to identify myself as a magical pony creature. I need to go lift some weights and regrow the stubble I just shaved.

Kind of split between Pegasus and Unicorn. Pegasus you can fly, but with a unicorn you basically never have to lift a hoof to do anything; you can use your horn.

Man, there is no love for the earth ponies in this thread. They'd better get something that stands out about them this season.

That said, yeah, I'd probably go unicorn. The ponies seem to get along controlling their environment with hooves, but I wouldn't want to have to get used to that.

REAL men enjoy their ponies without being emasculated. Especially since most people should know how, ahem, well-endowed stallions can get. Of course, if you wish to be the little filly, I won't say anything.

I have mental pictures of ponies carefully sanding their hooves to make a tactile edge, or wearing hooftip sleeves with tactile ridges for easier manual work.

Would it be cheating for a unicorn to make themselves some mechanical wings, then use telekinesis to make them flap and become some kind of magitek cyborg alicorn? Or is that too much effort to be practical?

Are there rules for unicorns for using their magic? I know Earth ponies prohibit the use of magic in some of their customs, but I'm wondering if the unicorns have this Bill or treaty or something that outlines the use of magic in Canterlot.

That seems a bit more steampunk than Equestria is capable of. But you could always try that butterfly wing spell, or ask Twilight to cast it.

The "no magic for the festival" thing is more a tradition, and it keeps ponies from getting too reliant on their magic. It might also be meant as a memorial of the days before ponies got really good at magic.

Speaking of that mechanical wing thing, it cannot be too hard to piece together such wings from canvas or strong cloth and metal bits, then use telekinesis to flap them and a wind spell to artificially increase the lift generated. Problem is, it'd be a big mana drain to keep airborne thataway unless you enchant the wings with a persistant Wind spell, and it might leave the unicorn too tired to work other magic later to keep flapping those wings with TK.

If unicorns are the aristocracy, and earth ponies are the blue collar working class.

What does that make the pegasi?

Why would you do that when unicorns can just create fully functioning wings for themselves?

Pegasi: The service sector?

Because I fail hard at Magic Wings, but am really good at crafting? Also, if it's possible to apply a 3-layer enchant on said wings (Persistant Wind, Flapping Wings, and Wing Control), I could share those wings with Earth ponies.
