@Pannic that was years ago, and when the play plot come... I wasn't caring anymore.

Fair enough.

Anyway, thing with Chicago is it's a satire. It's a scathing attack on the media, the legal system, and public morality.

Ya gotta love mean spirited satire. -_- Yeah, my lecturers have been trying to shove THAT down my throat too. (roll eyes)

I'll probably still get around to watching it

It's not mean-spirited if your target deserves it or if you're trying to make a point.

Mean-spirited though it may be, it's got a whole lot of catchy tunes.

It's really a shame that it gets such a bad rap. Most people who are aware of it only think of it as "that dumb musical that stole the Oscar away from Lord of the Rings/Gangs of New York/The Pianist."

I once had an idea for a somewhat parody fic of FIM. Basically Trixie had written a play to badmouth the Mane Six (what her motivation for Fluttershy and Pinkie beyond being the other four's friends I have no idea) and it becomes really popular, but as a comedy instead of being serious.

And then circumstances would conspire to ship Trixie with Rainbow Dash. Somehow. It wasn't very well thought out.

Can't something just be entertaining anymore?

I couldn't stand Natural Born Killers because of its Anvilicious media message.

@Pannic People still give a shit about the oscars?

They do when they complain.

I just find it funny when I look up user reviews of movies and there are people who just completely don't get it. Like with Chicago, people go "what, I'm supposed to root for these horrible, horrible people?" (no, you're not). Or with Fargo when people complain about Marge Gunderson, saying that she's a useless bumbling fool (she isn't) or saying that the movie would've been better without her (she's the fucking heart of the movie).

I had an idea for a fic where Trixie tries to ruin Twilight's life. Just because Trixie is a dick.

I'm not sure if that's a parody or not. The line always gets a bit blurred.

@Ginger MEANINGLESS AWARDS ARE VERY IMPORTANT! WE CAN PUT IT ON THE DVD COVER!

I always love the extraordinarily tenuous claims people put on DVD covers

Water Horse, for example "From the Special FX department that worked on Lord Of the Rings" [lol]

I always laugh when they put quotes from The Sun on DVD covers.

My dad rented a movie called "Is Anybody Out There?" one time just because it had a bunch of awards on the cover. Turns out it was a trippy indy film about a whiny British kid and his elderly friend with Alzheimers.

Says the guy who refuses to read/watch something if it doesn't have villains that live up to his standards.tongue

Also, seriously? We livestreamed twice and I missed both of them? BAH.

@Pannic Wait, WHAT?!

People thought Marge was an IDIOT?! She's only the most competent character IN that fucking movie.

and I do question the purpose of watching a movie where none of the characters are sympathetic... like I saw a movie that just bored me to tears because all of the main characters were whining, morally corrupted assholes

The word "Indie" always makes me think of Indiana Jones.

Seriously, "independent" isn't that hard to say.

I know! What, do they think accents indicate intelligence or something? How the fuck can you watch that movie and go through Marge's meticulous investigation that leads to her apprehending the killer and think she's a "bumbling idiot"?

Admittedly, I find something interesting about watching something where the characters are fundamentally unsympathetic. It can make for some interesting dynamics and a wide web of motivations and interactions. Though there are a couple of sympathetic characters in Chicago, particularly Amos Hart, Roxie's poor husband.

@Pannic Wait. There's a difference between "unsympathetic" and "flawed".

Which are the main characters of Chicago?

Unsympathetic characters can also work if the story goes out of its way to have bad things happen to them constantly. 8 Bit Theater is a good example of this.

@Sky It won't load......

The reason I didn't really get into Firefly was because a lot of the characters were unsympathetic scumbags. That, and the whole Joss Whedon thing.

Bah. Taobao only takes Paypal, and my Paypal account is busted, and due to a glitch I'm unable to verify it. I'll just have to wait until they put that Derpy toy up for sale on their website after Comic Con and hope I can snag one.
