It makes her a bit of a hypocrite though... just saying

that was the whole POINT of ABS, that she will do anything to help other ponies, but has trouble accepting that help for herself.

[up][up][up]I kinda like that about AJ, and Twilight for that matter. I prefer Straight Men crippled with a heavy vice than full on perfect ones. Makes them more interesting, and usually a LOT more funny.

Is being a hypocrite a chink in her designation of the Element of Honesty though?

@Psi I do kinda feel weird how you seem to gleefully revel in Applejack's flaws, uncaring of how much misery she's feeling in episodes like TLR sad

she can dish it out but can't take it.

...That sounds dirty.

@turtle She doesn't really seem like a hypocrite to me. It would be more hypocrisy if she was the Element of Honesty and lied all the time.

[up]Similar to RD's loyalty tainted by her occasional selfishness, Rarity's genorosity tainted by her materialism, Pinkie's laughter tainted by occasionally annoying rather than cheering people up.

@ginger: It's more the fact I find a lot of her Staight Man roles kind of dull, she often ends up the generic 'normal' pony in Season Two. And no I thought the ending to TLR was very endearing, but partly because she was humorously flawed in it well so had personality to gain sympathy.

There are LOTS of exceptions, she manages to hold onto a 'warm but abrasive' role for most of Season One for example, and retains a lot of eccentricities even when the smarter character, but in Season Two it starts to fade (arguably Williams and Rogers episodes do her the most justice).

This is why I adored Lesson Zero, after figuring Twilight to have a similar dullness problem, it was fun seeing her act completely nuts, and since she holds onto her comical neurotics a lot more consistantly in S2 (even in a subtle manner when being the Only Sane Man) I consider her 'fixed'. I indeed do revel in character flaws, they make them likeable.

@Turtle She isn't CONSCIOUSLY a hypocrite though.

She honestly believes that what she's saying is true... she just can't apply it to herself.

In fact, I think part of why she went nuts during TLR was because by coming home empty handed after promising a load of ribbons and money she'd be seen as a liar

Maybe hypocrite isnt the right word. But she does have all these values for her friends that she doesnt seem to apply to herself. If she says that you shouldnt judge your friends yet expects her friends to judge her... is that just insecurity or something? I lack a term to define it.

@Psi Loyalty and ego aren't really related, but the other two make sense.

@ginger She holds herself to a higher standard, so she can help her friends. RD and AJ sometimes seem to switch elements.

@turtle She's just helpful and proud. She loves to help others, but thinks accepting help would show weakness.

Then how in blazes do you ever discover anything new?

Geez, no wonder you're always miserable.

Applebuck season is a perfect example of what I mean. She feels the need to help everyone to the detriment to her own well being... yet refuses help until the very end as if being helped is the worst thing ever.

Is that a virtue or an Obsessive compulsive disorder? tongue

I think she believes the entire world rests on her shoulders. Others shouldn't judge themselves harshly because they can always try again, but if she messes up then she won't be able to help them.

Some kinda mild messiah complex?

[up][up][up]That's what I mean, basically a mundane version of Chronic Hero Syndrome. No matter how much she empathises with other characters' shortcomings, she can't see it from her side. In her case, she just thinks she is being weak and pathetic.

@ginger That makes sense.

Say, did we ever finish up the Crystal Empire stuff? Or did it get moved to the fanon thread?

I can relate to this "you're okay, I'm not okay" mentality. Another reason why she's my favorite character.

I found a lot of good books to read by looking at the picture on the cover [lol]

In the 80's the cover usually had very little to do with the contents of the book tongue

@story I'd enjoy seeing that, could you repost it?

Also, have you done any other statistics (post count/most common words/etc.) recently?
